Arien, Tigasin321 your views are right. It is not fair to compare India with US, western nations in terms of living standard. Long way to go.

But they all are natural partners, I believe. Free societies. Only forces in India opposing these partnerships are ideologically bankrupt communists and religious fundamentalists.

Yes India needs more reforms in many sectors like power and agriculture to continue to grow. That can't achieved by alone. Partnership with big economies is the way to go.

There is a huge amount of poverty in my country (the US) but overall, life expectancy, literacy rates and standard of living are high. India is nowhere near the US or Europe in these areas. Child mortality is high, illiteracy is high and there are many who face serious hunger issues. I know, I have been to Mumbai.

This is not a criticism, it is a fact. I know that India has made great strides in recent years and that things are markedly improving but there s still a long way to go.

An interesting example is Ireland. For centuries, people left Ireland in droves (including my own ancestors). Ireland was poor and backward. Now Ireland is rich and there is net immigration into Ireland, a strong economy and high quality of life. When that happens in India, then you will know that India has really arrived.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

Paul..yes dear you are right to an extend.. Its all in their hands.

India not being a president ruled one..everything has to be voted and approved by the parliment.

Though the president is the commander n chief of the army.. has no powers and i would say,, is just a rubber stamp.

Its been a peace seekin approach so far on all issues.. God knows tomrw.!!

cheers

Alrght Tigasin.. I am the last one for an argument.

I disagree on the pverty / illiteracy part of it. you are talkin about the past there.

India in no way would need any sort of outgoing support for the US other than the diplomatic relations and ties countries would have which helps eachother.

regarding the concern over the risk involved which would end everything.

I would say India can always be consider the safest among any country for that matter. thats a proven credibility.

Lets all hope N- energy is used only for the good of mankind. cheers man

Just look at the widespread poverty, high rates of iliteracy etc. India does need the US whether you like it or not. The US is still the world's largest economy by a long way despite having a population of one quarter the size of India's. Hundreds of thousands of Indians try to emigrate to the US every year and there are many illegal Indians in the US. India is growing fast and cannot sustain that growth by domestic demand alone. It needs trading partners and the US is still the world's largest trading partner.

The current economic gloom in the US is affecting India and will continue to affect India.

I never said that India is like Iran. Of course it is not thank God. India is growing fast and I am sure will have a great future. I have only positive wishes for India and I think India will play an increasingly important role in world affairs. This is a good thing. But the fact remains that India still has a way to go before it is a first world country. I hope that transition takes place in our lifetime. I think it will.

Maddepp said "hats off to Iran". What a stupid thing to say. Iran is using the nuclear threat to threaten world security, prosperity and the lives of millions. Why hats off to Iran?

Personally, I am in favor of nuclear disarmament (including the US) and am against the nuclear weapon aims of any country.

India has always had a very difficult relationship with China. Now we have two burgeoning nuclear giants, not to mention Pakistan and other unstable regimes like Iran and growing paranoia from Israel. The world is a tinder box and a careless moment could end everything.

This is my position and I stick to it. It is nothing against India. I wish nothing but the best for India.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

Tigasin.. Bush should have been much harder???.. in what sense???.

India woudlnt bother even if this deal is not signed. Majority in India still say NO to the deal. do you know that??.

India is far away from wher you know about it I guess. They dont need anything from US anymore!!!!!. Let them help the third worlds bro.. and you compare India with Iran??..thats a joke i guess.

99% of the world doesnt trust US.. they do things just for their good..we all know that. India benifits only in terms of uninterrupted supply of uranium for their power projects.

Maddep.. long term strategic decisions shouldnt be delayed because of a prevailing issue of inflation which will be sorted out. India needs projects which can support the huge 1.3 billion population. Three major plants have shut down due shortage of fuel.

oh!!! hold on Tigasin.India would never be Iran, not even in your dreams...

India is not a rouge nation like Iran.It is the biggest democracy in the world and they know where they are heading in the next decades. They won't spoil all those. Above all,the democratic setup will not let anyone do that.

Coming to the point...no one in the world trusts US, particularly in their (double standard) foreign policy.US is rushing and forcing India so much to sign the deal, because US has a secret agenda, to restrict India advancing in N-technolgy. Indians have already proves their mettle in space and N-tech. US is worried that India might become a pain in the but in the future. Bush wants to take the credit for putting India in checkmate before he leaves the office.

Everyone know that US is not rushing to sign the deal becuase it is concerned for India's power (electricity) needs for the future, as the Indian goverment claims.that is why there is so much resistance in India.this government will never sign the deal....

india shud not sign the deal. here in india the government is only concerned abt the N.deal.the inflation is touching its all time high of 11.89. try to put the efforts on those matters which matters the common . not to bend the knee infront of americans. Hats off to Iran.

Tigasin321, you are wrong.Obama's view is same as the current administration.

Will the India-US nuclear deal be doomed if it isn't concluded before the end of President George W Bush's tenure? That may not necessarily be the case. Barack Obama, who's set to run for US president as the Democratic Party's nominee, has indicated that he has no problems with the deal in its present form.

Bush was very weak. He should have been much harder on the Indians and more restrictive. Hopefully, Obama will redress the issue.
