Smoking in Landmark Mall at Starbucks

By iansmoo

Everytime I walk past Starbucks I see people smoking, even after the fire at Villagio this still continues. There are no smoking signs on the tables but people still ignore them. This is their choice but no one in Starbucks is enforcing this law, no mall security staff are enforcing this law, what is the safety officer of Landmark doing about this. I think all these people are too scared to do anything. It seems no one has learned anything from the fire. In the Gulf times today front page it says call 44895151 if we see any misdeeds. Those who violate safety rules will be charged according to legal procedures. I dont think this situation will ever change, all the fuss will die down and smoking will continue.

I believe this thread has gotten just a tad out of hand; to which I maybe contributed yesterday.

Bottom line is these guys should not smoke where it is forbidden, regardless of whether its a fire risk or not - I only recently stopped smoking and I used to pop outside any of the shopping venues for a smoke - coming from the UK it was alien to me being able to smoke ANYWHERE apart from outside! Having a smoke with a beer here was a welcome diversion lol

However, the events at villagio are genuinely making people raw, aware and afraid of anything that might or might not cause ignition of a fire. This, unfortunately is inevitable - Its human nature.

Lets please calm down and stop this crazy war :-)

was not caused by a lighted cigarrette?

Anyway, hard to explain it to someone who don't understand or doesn't want to understand what safe

"There are no smoking signs on the tables but people still ignore them".

How stupidier are you now? (you see, I'm learning my English).

My statement:

------------

rules are rules and applying them is nothing I can control or enforce. The way you people gossip is beyond funny because even grandmas gossip less. Applying your rule and QL wisdom, if you don't like it, leave it. Some of these smokers are addicted and need help. There are many coffee shops around, go somewhere else if you are bothered but also REST SURE his cigarette won't cause a fire to threaten your useless life flor

Flor's argument:

----------------

And following your logic, anyone can smoke anywhere in the mall if that place is not a danger to fire? So you think you can sit on the benches at the center of Landmark and light a cigarrette?

didn't I tell you to read more than once?

By BlueBull• 12 Jun 2012 23:15

Smoking is a natural response to boredom and the urge to smoke increases with prohibition.

I have witness a lot of fire because of cigarrette smoking., of course not in a coffee shop up to now. Again, the topic is not concentrated on fire hazard but also breaking the law. Now, I don't know how can anyone call your hardheaded action of saying no harm for smoking inside a mall? For you, it is not a danger to fire, FOR YOU, not for those who are concerned about possibilities and the truth is there is REALLY a possibility.

And following your logic, anyone can smoke anywhere in the mall if that place is not a danger to fire? So you think you can sit on the benches at the center of Landmark and light a cigarrette?

VERY true, idiot do think, AND YOU ARE NOT THINKING, what are you?

By anonymous• 12 Jun 2012 23:05

Flor again and again, you especially have no business in logical discussions. You proved over the course of many topics that you are not mentally capable to do so.

Read what I wrote more than once to understand my point because it seems that you always have hard time understanding what others mean.

I won't call you an idiot because even idiots think and the last thing I want is insulting idiots.

I am NOT defending smoking or promoting it. All I am saying you infant is that smoking a cigarette has never caused a fire inside a coffee shop in Qatar. (I would be happy to be given a credible counter example) and even if it did, what are the chanced flor?

rules are rules and applying them is nothing I can control or enforce. The way you people gossip is beyond funny because even grandmas gossip less. this coffee shop should put an enclosed areas within their shop to be use by smokers or better enclosed their whole shop. Kallas! Problem solved.

What happens if a woman is smoking in a skimpy top and showing her knees? Do you ignore the smoking but call her a slut for immodest dress?

By nomerci• 12 Jun 2012 22:32

Well, there actually is another angle to this.

A lot of smokers, have no problem not smoking where it is prohibited.

But, a lot of smokers also have a very strong urge to smoke when , for example, drinking coffee.

Which can mean that they will not take coffee in places where it is prohibited to do so...ergo, less money for the coffee shops....

going around. If these people will just be given a power to talk and warn those smoking people whether they are locals or expats without fear of intimidation, then, there can be a positive solution to this "hardheaded" people who can not control themselves from smoking.

and if you allow smoking inside a mall, what good reason will you say for other people to follow no-smoking in other hazardous area. Law is law and defending it the dirty way you do makes the idiocy of you super.

You are a disgrace in this forum and I really wonder why the Mods let you abuse anyone here in the forum with your dirty mouth.

And tell you frankly, even if you can cite 1 million people living 70+ and smoking, it does not, repeat, does not change the fact that smoking is bad for health for the person who smoke and for the second-hand smoke for others.

And also, it is true that smoking causes fire, if you don't know that, then you are what you are with your own words....a RETARD!

People say that when there's a smoke there's a fire so the moment you light your fag, technically you already instigated a fire...is that a right assumption?

I know many heavy smokers who are 70+ years old and still living and many others who live the healthiest lifestyle who have health problems. I never said it is not harmful to you to smoke though. All I said, smoking a cigarette does not really instigate a fire and even if it does, chances are very slim.

A normal V8 car with about 4.0 liters engine consumes about 10,000 liters of air per minute when running at 4000-5000 rpm. Do you know how many cigarettes is that equivalent to in terms of environmental hazards? multiply those by 5,000,000 cars by 60 minutes by 24 hours.

Stop trying to be a smart a**. We are talking about cigarettes causing FIRES Not about the effect of cigarettes on human health.

Breaking News..........PeterGrifin has discovered that smoking is no longer harmful to health!!!!!! Blimey, the World Health Organisation will be really pleased that you have proven that the effects of passive smoking are not killing people every day - Yee Ha!!!

On the subject of Sheesha outside, I apologise as I was clearly incorrect in my assumption.

100 ventialtion shafts would not remove the stench from cigarettes - and unless I am totally incorrect, none of the mainstream malls nor chain coffee shops have Sheesha available here? Blah Blah Blah - THE SIGNS SAY NO SMOKING

I believe the people who smoke in the Malls are ignorant and have no regard to others. The "No Smoking" signs are there for a reason. Not only is it a health risk but also a safety risk. Stop thinking only of yourselves!
