Say it isn't so
The advent of the digital age has fast-forwarded our lives to unimaginable speeds in terms of communicating with one another in almost all corners of our planet, and even out of it too. Here's my question: Does it excuse some people when they misspell or misuse incorrect words? One fairly notices it here in QL, and no they are not mere 'typos'. Or are we seeing here an evolution of words which could someday become the norm? We know the English language is complex and it would be understandable a lot of us misspell, or incorrectly use some words sometimes. Let me cite an example, the prefix 'in' or 'un' when used, would mean the opposite of the (root) word. Words like 'comprehensible' vis-a-vis 'incomprehensible'. But see an idiosyncrasy here, 'flammable' is the same as 'inflammable'. And are you familiar with text speak (textese?) or digital shorthand? Y stands for why, U stands for u. U do dis wen ur txtng wid ur celfon. It wud b undrstndble, ryt? But hey, it's seeping into our workplaces too! Is there a need to take English 101 here? Should we compromise form? To emphasize my point just see the attachment and imagine how it is.
shortening the words: when used in text messages, i dont see anything wrong with it.. i do that all the time, but only when texting..
What I don't get is when people use @ in place of 'at'.
Why? It's still 2 keystrokes (SHIFT + 2 versus A + T).
What's the point? I get, but don't particularly like, shortening other words (why/y, you/u, because/cos, for/4 etc) because, if nothing else, you are actually 'shortening' the word...
Which party is picture no 4 campaigning for? I would like to get more information...lol
