That's one difference, I can never talk about hitting back parents even in a joke.

most (except for an elite group of qlers who hate the West) and I would NEVER raise my hand to my mother, father, wife or anyone else. mmyke is being sarcastic.

It is no more common in our society than yours, mate. Yes, very occasionally there is a dimwit who abuses his elderly parents, but they are prosecuted for their illegal and amoral acts. I don't think this behaviour is acceptable anywhere in teh world.

She embarrassed her son in front of everyone on one of the most important days of his life. He obviously wanted to make a romantic gesture, albeit out of step with the usual customs of the family. But even if she didn't like it, it would have passed in a moment or 2 and then she could speak to him afterwards. Now she made such a fuss that it will not be forgotten.

And slapping your son on his wedding day? That will surely drive him into the arms of his wife's family and away from his. What an idiot woman!

I would turn my other cheek for her to slap. she is women and a mother.

Awe... that's sooo sweet... and soo creative... I definitely wont mind marrying this guy! Although I would like to disagree with the honeymoon spot... I just laugh at the culture... it's.... it's... very unique, and the wedding guest walked out of the wedding because parent put on a 'show'...lol..

Anyway, good for the man to just leave the country... but to Malaysia?

Ya Xena my mom will hug me if I do something like this, lol :P

By Xena• 6 Aug 2010 14:30

that should have made the mom proud that she raised such a lovely son.... who actually though of something to make, what I assume to have been a traditional arranged marriage, a little more than just that... His bride obviously agreed with him as it was pre-arranged... so sweet....

Hey, a strange experience folks. When ever you are travelling please check if your RP / Visa is valid at least for a period of 6 months.

My RP expires on 16 Nov.2010, while the Immigration counter cleared with their seal, the guy Pravesh of Qatar Airways in the departure lounge never permitted me to board the flight at the last minute. I showed my return flight is within 48 hours, even if he wants me have a longer vacation,I cannot stay away, as I joined my employer 8 months back. I showed my EXIT permit and I am travelling to Muscat just for 2 days for a family commitment.

As per GCC regulations the Visa is stamped for 2 years and RP renewed every year, I don't know how the Visa was also stamped for one year in my case. He took me to his Supervisor another Kid of 24, 25 years ; I mentioned I have lived in the GCC for 24 years and I would not jeopardise my job nor their job, but the guy went on blabbering 'I don't want to lose my job' again and again. I pity the plight of these youngsters, who would not understand practicality - while my stay in the airport for 2 hours such chaos and passengers speaking high tone and getting away for excess baggage and what not, I politely asked me to show me the counter for processing the refund and walked home with disappointment, afterall a week end trip to Muscat and back was futile. Please check the RP well before you plan your trip, just a caution so that you do not face the same disappointment, specially if it is a annual vacation.

Slap your mother back??

If that's what being a First world and civilized society means then I am Proud of being from a third world uncivilized country.

I hope my part of the world never becomes civilized like this.

I think I will start a thread on this, is this the superiority he has over us which he claims in every thread.

mmyke, slapping your mother back is not a good culture, whatever the reason.

By mmyke• 6 Aug 2010 13:30

Seems like he forgot that showing affection (in any form) in public is HARAAM in this part of the world.

By rEzyz• 6 Aug 2010 13:27

mmyke is right... he should follow the canadian tradition of slapping back mother.... ;D

By FathimaH• 6 Aug 2010 13:26

I don't agree brit. Cos its certainly not conservative to slap your son in front of guests, Allahu alim. This is like a strict no no. I can understand her in private reprimanding him since ok what he did maybe according to them culturally wrong hence embarrassing ..though again slapping your children is never never right. But by doing what she did she only brought upon more humiliation to both her son and their family reputation. she obviously had issues!

By britexpat• 6 Aug 2010 13:22
britexpat

Perhaps she wanted to show the new bride "who has the upper hand" in the family..

By mmyke• 6 Aug 2010 13:21
mmyke

slapped her back,,,,

By rEzyz• 6 Aug 2010 13:12

ofcourse the bride is his priority, thats why marrying to her... ;)

By drmana• 6 Aug 2010 13:04
drmana

But slapping groom infront of everyone is not a very good idea as well, is it?

By britexpat• 6 Aug 2010 13:04
britexpat

It is probably more to do with conservative attitude of the mother, rather than her mental state.

By irf77• 6 Aug 2010 12:59
irf77

Drmana, bride and their family are priority but with out sharing the plan that may

have been perceived as insult to groom's whole family in front of every body may not necessary be a good idea.

There are other ways to express love.

By drmana• 6 Aug 2010 12:54
drmana

rezyz, you mean after marriage the bride should not be his priority? Better not get married if that is the case.

By rEzyz• 6 Aug 2010 12:52
rEzyz

mother is right... groom should sustain his precedency...!

By FathimaH• 6 Aug 2010 12:40
FathimaH

The mother must have mental issues...for sure! May Allah guide her and cure her & grant the son immense patience in dealing with a mom like this in a manner pleasing to his Lord..Aameen!

By drmana• 6 Aug 2010 12:38
drmana

Jealousy for sure....couldn't let go of her son after his marriage. Poor guy.....I don't think that relationship between MIL and DIL would be cordial after this.

By edifis• 6 Aug 2010 12:37

It is good for the boy. Saudis always need strict disciplining!

By anonymous• 6 Aug 2010 12:08

well she must have left envious. FFS she is his wife old B. Its not his fault that your son is putting shoe in his wife's foot & on the other hand your husband treated you like one

Serves him right for trying to be so romantic...

By KHATTAK• 6 Aug 2010 11:40
