Qatar-Argentina Discuss Measures of Mutual Consolidation

His Highness Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani meets with Argentinian President Mauricio Macri, an at the Casa Rosada Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires yesterday with intentions to discuss measures of consolidating Qatar-Argentinian foreign relations and contributing to further mutual co-operation in agriculture and investment.

During the discourse of their meeting, both President Macri and His Highness Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani praised the friendly and growing relations between both countries, hoping that they can both take further steps in continuing to advance the ties and create a stronger foundation; reaffirming that this meeting is a positive step towards enhancing that. The discussions were centred on measures of advancing their bilateral relations and the breadth of mutual co-operation in economical investments, the development of education, research aid, sports advancement as well as assistance with the environment and agriculture, according to Gulf Times.

After discussing common interests and concerns, His Highness and President Macri witnessed the signing of an agreement between both countries’ governments that abolished visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, private, official and national passports. Multiple Memorandums of Understanding were also signed, inclusive of a consolidation plan to encourage co-operation in the mutual advancement of education and sciences as well as an agreement between Qatar’s Ministry of Culture and Sports and the General Secretariat of Sport of Argentina to encourage future prospects of contribution in sports opportunities between both governments. A memorandum was also signed with an aimed purpose of co-operation between the Ministry of Municipality and Environment of Qatar in conjunction with the Ministry of Production and Labour of the Argentine Republic intended to encourage reciprocal consultations and abetment in various agricultural sectors.

At a meeting held earlier on the same day at the Presidential Palace, discussions were made in regards to potential courses of action that are yet to be taken to strengthen bilateral relations and the suggested proposals for consolidating co-operation in various fields. Judgements were also exchanged on the most recent developments on the regional and international arenas, according to The Peninsula. Matters were also discussed regarding the mutual interest in each others field’s of expertise, including Argentina’s intention to help Qatar with food security, and Qatar to help Argentina in the field of energy development as both countries admit to undergoing regional challenges.

The discussion was concluded with both expressing the hope that Argentina will subdue the difficult economic conditions under the leadership of the president and the newly established agreements between Qatar and Argentina.
