Pakistan Cricket Shamed !

A day of shame for cricket .. We have all heard of match fixing and betting, but this takes things to a new level.. R.I.P Pakistan Cricket !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The News of the World has released undercover footage
A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged cricket betting scam centred on the current Test between Pakistan and England at Lord's.

The News of the World claims it gave £150,000 to a middleman who gave information about three pre-arranged "no balls" during the match.

Scotland Yard said a 35-year-old man is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers.

Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed told the Associated Press team members had spoken to police at their hotel and were "helping them with their inquiries".

He later said he was shocked by the allegations, as were the team members to whom he had spoken.

The News of the World alleges that Pakistani players were secretly paid to deliberately bowl "no-balls" during the Test.

A "no ball" occurs when a bowler oversteps the line behind which balls should be delivered.

The newspaper claims it was given pre-warning of three separate incidents by the Pakistan team.

It said members of its reporting team posed as Far Eastern businessmen and paid a middleman who told them exactly what would happen in the next day's play.

The allegations relate to three "no balls" delivered by Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif on Thursday and Friday.

The BBC's Andy Swiss said the allegations involved "very minor, very small details within the match that might seem ridiculously trivial to a lot of people".

Our correspondent added: "That sort of information is worth a huge amount of money in the betting world where you can put bets on the tiniest details within a cricket game".

And he suggested the allegations could affect the sport's reputation.

"Cricket prides itself on the integrity of its reputation for fair play.

"This is a difficult situation for cricket and there are going to be some uncomfortable questions for the Pakistan team when the match resumes," he said.

Gun suicide of football club chairman at centre of Pakistan cricket match-fixing scandal:

"Mr Le Cluse was said to be devastated by claims that money may have been laundered through his club, Croydon Athletic FC. He also allegedly lost a lot of money because of the scandal.

He started working for the Ryman League club last November after being appointed by its co-owner Mazhar Majeed, who is currently under investigation for his supposed involvement with a match-fixing syndicate based in Pakistan.......it is thought he lost at least £50,000 tied up in deals with Majeed that fell through because of the scandal. its happening in England because there is an International series taking place, bookies take bets from all events all over the world, just happens the biggest cricket bookies are in India, so what!!...do you actually grasp what SPOT fixing is? The result of the match is not fixed just certain things which happen in certain overs like will a no ball be bowled, how many runs will be scored etc etc

Pakistan flounder against united England

England wrapped up an easy 2-0 victory in the Twenty20 series that left Pakistan desperate for a positive result in the one-dayers to lift them out of the mire

Shahid Afridi, offered no excuses after his team capped a dreadful week by collapsing to their lowest total in Twenty20 history. In front of a paltry crowd of 5,821, one of the lowest gates ever seen for an England international, Pakistan were brushed aside for 89, en route to a six-wicket defeat with a full six overs to spare.

"We were very bad, very inexperienced and immature from my side and from all the batsmen," said Afridi. "I think we played very bad cricket. I didn't want to sound negative before the game - I wanted to be positive as the captain - but we didn't play well and we're still making mistakes

Afridi was not apologising for the match fixing, but the negative publicity this has generated for Cricket and Pakistan...

I love cricket and the Pakistani team was always my fav..I even supported them against SL and India getting much flak from my family as a result! So its depressing to see so many of their players falling into the same ditch as those before them did. But other than handing out bans to those found guilty what more can the PCB do?How can they prevent this from happening time after time?Truly greed is a demon=(

Afridi apologises for spot-fixing controversy

Cricinfo staff

September 4, 2010

Pakistan's one-day captain, Shahid Afridi, has issued a public apology on behalf of the three players suspended by the ICC after allegations of spot-fixing during the fourth Test at Lord's. Speaking to the press after the visiting team's training session ahead of the first Twenty20 against England in Cardiff, Afridi also distanced himself from the events of the last week and insisted that his team were focused on the remaining games of their tour.

"I think it is very bad news," said Afridi. "On behalf of these players - I know they are not in this series - but on behalf of these boys I want to say sorry to all cricket lovers and all the cricketing nations."

Afridi also revealed that Mazhar Majeed - the man alleged to be at the centre of the spot-fixing scandal - had accompanied the team on various tours in the past. "This guy has been travelling with the guys in the West Indies and in Australia," he said. "I saw him on the tours. I didn't know anything about this

London: A lot of Pakistani cricketers are "just looking for money, women and food" and very few of them have any love for the game, claims the bookie arrested for alleged 'spot-fixing' in the England-Pakistan Test.

Mazhar Majeed, the bookie who has made sensational claims of bribing Pakistani cricketers for bowling no balls in a sting operation by a British tabloid, claimed a lot of players were only bothered about money.

"You'll find there's only a few players who are genuine and who are actually here for the love of the game, and there's not many believe me. A lot of them are just looking for money, women and food," Majeed has been quoted as saying in the video tapes of the sting released by 'The News of the World'.

PCB should ban the players right away, which every one knows they won't, will ban them for 3 matches and fine them, and then back to the game.

Saleem malik was also caught in a match fixing scandal and was banned from cricket international and domestic series for life....
