I think you misunderstood, let me clarify: i use madonna here as an example or introduction to my argument that there are many irresponsible media products such as madonna songs and vedio clips, moves etc etc.

this argument which complains about TV effects on people especially young people has been there for a long time as can be known from reading Mrs Whitehouse's biography.

I am glad you are like that. However, there are many people who has not yet developed enough reserve of awareness to be independent and not led astray.

Clothing is one aspect of it. Morals is another aspect. So those songs are double, triple ...etc edged. you may include movies and advertisements too.

Again, for you it may not be a problem. But definitely it is a problem for many others especially young people and children!

Violence, sexual abuse, smoking all can be tied (perhaps not completely) to movies and songs. (arabic movies included before i get accused!)

One more point, all people who have concrete views about anything, and bad songs in this case, have gone through thinking and actions caused by watching those vedios before reaching final views/opinions. In some cases, those represent bad acts and crimes and arguments. So we should teach people not to fall in the trap!

CBD: I think I understand what you are saying, but I am not sure I agree that harm is being caused. Perhaps I am biased on this topic because, like many people on this thread, I grew up listening to Madonna's music but I don't think I was necessarily "harmed" by such music. I dress conservatively (by Western standards) and, while I do enjoy dancing, I certainly don't dance like her. But those are decisions that I have made for myself. Isn't that what makes us intelligent beings: the ability to see something and choose for ourselves if this is the way we want to be?

I also disagree with Sandi's comment that we are all being controlled by the media. I don't consult actors and so forth when making simple purchases like toothbrushes. Usually, I buy what is on sale. I'm a simple girl with simple needs.

Those songs where revealing bodies are shown and swearing words are repeated find thier way into the minds of os listeners especially the young people. Unfortunately, they respond to it unrealisingly. This phenomenon is propagated all over the place and translated into beliefs and actions that are harmful!
