JEDDAH: Police are searching for a runaway Indonesian housecleaner who is suspected of attempting to abduct her employer’s daughter, police said.

“The housecleaner deceived her employer under the pretext of throwing away trash to get out of the house. She asked to take along with her the employers’ daughter in order to win their trust for the exit. When the girl’s father arrived, he was told about the disappearance,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid. He added: “Later, a call was made reporting the missing child and a possible kidnapping.”

Following the call, police launched an investigation and searched in and around Al Samer district. “During investigations, policemen were approached by neighbors of the parents who said the missing child was actually left by the cleaner before she ran away,” said Brig Al-Juaid, adding that the child was safe and handed over to the parents. Police dropped the abduction charges and are now looking for the maid. They expect to capture her soon.

Meanwhile, Makkah police have stepped up search for an Indonesian woman in her 20s after she escaped from a maternity hospital, police said. The woman was admitted to the hospital for medical examinations ordered by the police following her arrest for having been involved in immoral activities. Security sources said the woman waited for medical staff to leave her room and left without being noticed.

You are right in your observation. However a key issue is that those who carry out such crimes are not punished severely. If they were, then I'm sure such crimes would be reduced enormously.

Part of the problem is that SA only abolished Salvery in the '60's so there is a cultural legacy to get over

Some people do not know where to draw the line.. They are always waiting for an opportunity to pounce on others... In other words bashing.. Good to see that the Mods have much more sense than them..

Hopefully Indonesia's ban on maids going to KSA will force KSA to rethink its domestic work situation for the benefit of all workers in the country.Sikandar--"and the "west" one got deleted - amazing" this is because this forum is about the labor laws/working conditions of a specific country.  The Mods have the good sense to realize that it is relevant to other GCC due to the sponsorship laws--particularly Qatar as those laws are being reviewed at the moment.  In other words it is relevant.  No one is bashing a religion, or a culture or a race here, which was clearly the purpose of the European.  To see everything in those terms is to miss the point; and as soon as you start reducing a thread to that, the Mods generally delete it (and you so many times).  :-)

Its just a good measure that our country will be anymore sending domestic helpers to Saudi because of their drastic dealings towards hem. Why not they employ fellow saudi women as maids, abuse them and deprive them if their right, so they will feel the dose of their own medicine. Just only show that locals in Saudi are really barbaric..

what has being examined in a maternity hospital got to do with kidnapping? There are gaping holes in this story

She was kept as a slave and probably never seen the sun, sand, sea and sky during her tenure with those heartless creatures.. They probably did not pay her salary and probably kept her passport and I am sure they did not send her home for the once in two years promised vacation..

You're right. the punishments can be very harsh if convicted.

I am sure she was mistreated by her madam.. Hit several times a day, starved to death and sleep deprived as well.. This is the same told story which I have been hearing for the last 32 years..

Back home this never happens.. In fact the servants have an upper hand.. They can leave you anytime.. They are free and not held like slaves.. So if you are lucky enough to find someone you can trust and who is really good at work, you have to make sure you keep your housemaid happy or else she might find a better job and ditch you in just one day without any notice..

she had to ask permision to leave the house?? they wouldn't even let her take the garbage out??No wonder she wanted to leave, they were keeping her as a slave... to bad nothing will be done against her employers

I rather think that there are more abusive employers than bad employees in this situation. The employee has more to lose by behaving in a criminal or negligent way

Allahu alam...What with all the scary and insane happenings the world over its getting very hard to believe who's telling the truth and who's not. Whilst oppressive employers are all around so are crimnal employees. What a life!

don't think they could get over fact that they are not allowed slaves anymore.

She needed an excuse to get out of the house and used it. Thankfully, she will not be accused of kidnapping. like many others, she is probably hiding out at the embassy or within her own community.

same old, same old.

she was probably mistreated and her employers tried to divert attention away from their own behaviour by saying she had kidnapped their daughter and then they said she had taken part in immoral activities. etc...
