Lebanon discriminates Palestinians

Nic
By Nic

“As Palestinians in Lebanon we have no rights. We just want to live with dignity,” said Palestinian Imtithal Abu Samra, 29, who lives in the Beddawi refugee camp in northern Lebanon.
Some 425,000 Palestinians are registered as refugees in Lebanon by Unrwa, the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees. Many live in 12 camps across Lebanon in conditions the UN has described as deplorable and appalling.
Palestinians in Lebanon are barred from working in dozens of professions and are generally paid lower wages than their Lebanese counterparts when they do find jobs. They are not allowed to benefit from public social or medical services.
Proposals for a draft law due to be debated in parliament in a few weeks would give Palestinians the right to own a residential apartment and would legalise work rights.

Palestinians should be thankful and kiss leb buttholes in spades for what lebs did for them over the years.

I mean look in Qatar for instance, why do you think they are stopping Jordanians (mostly Palestinian people) from coming here? these dude are crooks in most cases and not all..

Now in lebanon? OK so Palestinians own guns within their camps which is against the leb law, live and never pay rent, steal electricity and never pay bills and should get paid like lebs and own properties?

HOw about they just call Lebanon Palestine?

I feel bad for them not having a country but enough is enough.. why make others suffer if you are suffering especially if those others have no power to help themselves.

Interesting reading, East or West, home is the best. Palestinians have the right to return. Some of the Palestinians who reside in Arab countries are very pragmatic, which I can understand, If you don't have home, then money is your home.At the same time I can't blame Lebanon, you can't use a sling shot against my hostile neighbour from my backyard. Usually large displaced groups aren't welcomed anywhere.

from britexpat's link:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/jun/24/middleeast-palestinian-territories

"Historically, Lebanese citizens have declared that naturalising Palestinians will act as a disincentive to their eventual repatriation and the exercise of their inviolable right of return.

While Israel absorbs its Jewish refugees, the Arab nations do not absorb Palestinian ones. The above statement is the answer to why the Palestinians plight is so poor.

Every other country around the world since WWII has had to do something with the displaced and refugees that arrive. "

The Zionist state is objecting the Palestinian right of return, Lebanon and the rest of the Arab have no room for them, because they already have enough internal issues. Even Europe/North America is turning off the immigration tap,so why should Lebanon naturalise them ? how big is Lebanon to accommodate extra inhabitants ? Israel should let them back, but this won't happen, You can easily immigrate to Israel if you are a Russian who has no ties to that region, but you can't return to your home which you had to evacuate under the Zionist gangs aggression. As usual the UN can't enforce none of the resolutions concerning this matter, you guess why !!!

@ Nic:

- now I have the answer.

By Dracula• 29 Jun 2010 15:38

Dracula

"Three years ago, Fatah al Islam, a jihadi group based in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al Bared in northern Lebanon, launched a bloody attack on the Lebanese military. In the next three months, most of the camp was destroyed and dozens of civilians, nearly 200 Lebanese soldiers and several hundred fundamentalist militants – most of them not Palestinians – were killed.

Palestinians did not always have the short end of the stick in Lebanon. Until the 1980s, they enjoyed considerable self-rule. But in the view of most Lebanese, they abused this freedom. Palestinian factions had turned a weak Lebanon into a convenient operational base against Israel, eroding the country’s sovereignty.

During the 1975-1990 civil war, they were active participants, as well as victims. They muddled its politics by aligning themselves with competing domestic factions, sharpening its already combustible sectarian tensions. In 1982, they brought unwanted Israeli wrath on Lebanon in the form of an invasion. The trauma of the civil war and the fact that camps remain outside the authority of the state spawn the belief that Palestinians are a source of instability, extremism and crime as well as a Trojan Horse for outside players."

Enough is enough. Nobody knows what we and our country went through because of the Palestinians. We treated them like family, they betrayed us and tried ti kick us out of our country. This is how and what they did in return. Lebanon has 4 million lebanese people onland and about 700000 palestinians, this is the most that we can do, and the best that we can offer, or else.....

Who knows who am I really they will know that I can answer this question clearly.

The Palestinians have been treated fair and square (mostly), sometimes like everywhere there will be abnormal states, where they are not treated well, for your knowledge so many of them have got a nationality from the Lebanese authorities and are treated like real Lebanese, for the camps issues, yes its hell yet they do not want to get out of there (most of them would not be able to due to poverty, but some of them and I mean some who are really wealthy, and can afford to have better places), for the fact that they are not paying rent and electricity, I think that youngsters do not know how these camps are built in the first place, they actually can ask the oldest about that, the former president (passed away)of the Palestinians Yasir Arafaat (Abu Ammaar) have paid the Lebanese government enough to have these lands for ever, hence these lands are actually a property for the Palestinian government until the world decide what the Palestinian should have decided long time ago, that means no ones mistake is there except them selves who are staying in those camps, they could have left, they could have beat it, but NO the thing of being (WE ARE SO POOR, AND PEOPLE HERE ARE TAKING OFF OUR RIGHTS FROM US); and I do not mean all of them, is there for they can abuse it. So people as usual we have to look from all side to the ball to know which side actually has got the hole.

Some of these Palestinians have been in Lebanon for over 50 years, they deserve to be treated as equals.

I recall a few years ago, Amnesty International took up this issue and reuested the Lebanese government to protect their human rights.

The simple fact is that many "Arab" countries are wary of the Palestinians and do not "trust" them, thus don't want them in their mainstream society.

"The majority of UNRWA-registered refugees live in dire conditions in the camps across and are denied basic civil rights.

Under Lebanese law, Palestinian refugees can not own property or hold most white collar jobs (doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects) and are stuck in low-paid employment. They are also denied social security and medical aid in state hospitals."

and the fact they dont get paid like lebanese..well, im lebanese studied and paid hell for my degree and found a job, why would some1 with no education due to whatever reason it is have a job same as me and get paid similarly? there r good ppl and bad ppl wherever u go in every country.same as here all of us get paid less than a qatari!it's normal.besides we welcomed them in our country due to what is happening to them in their own, and alot of lebanese are married to palestinians and alot i mean alot are friends!at the end of the day no matter what nationality u hold, this is human kind and we should stick together.
