"The expatriate work force is an integral part of Qatar's economy. Their active engagement and contribution to the growth is a clear evidence that there is room for them."

Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani (Qatar Statistics Authority) via the Qatar News Agency.

inshallah! Very very good for the deserving but very bad for those who pretend they have the knowledge but in fact.........zero!

Actually, my wish is for them to level the field. meaning equal opportunity, without consideration of race, religion or nationality! Actually, it should be for the whole world, not only in Middle East!

But we all know that this will not happen in general, because this is the legacy of those with superiority complex! And you know who are they?

HGL - to be honest, I was just glad to see that there is at least an acknowledgement that Expatriates at least contribute towards the economic success of this county. I was using this basic example to highlight this.

On one level there are a lot of roles that Qatari nationals simply do not want to do (hence my orignial comments) and some they simply do not have the education or experience to do - as to the rest we are entering into the realms of controversial discussion.

Another reason I am glad that this has been said, is I am sick of being told that I am a greedy expat who is here to rip off the country, whilst being incompetant at my job (if you don't believe me, do check back through previous postings on QL).

jjj75...the topic is about welcoming expats in Qatar...you pointed out only cleaning of toilets, sweet(p)ing the roads and every other dirty job that the locals don't want to do is what they are welcome to do here...now if you are an expat and in Qatar does one of those jobs apply to you, was what I wanted to know.... whether you are here for any of those jobs or there is other job that you, as well as other expats, may be (are) doing here.

I thought you don't need an exit permit and yet you agreed on multiple exit permit, is there a difference?

Unless you are a father- or husband-sponsored or the like, then you don't need an exit permit, but you admitted that you have multiple exit permit! Even if it is a single or multiple, you still need to show this exit permit when going out of Qatar! I hope you undertsand that!

jeez people here are really funny, they keep saying this is a public forum and should accept each pthers opinions and yet, keep bashing each other and asking to stop nonsense post. be it nonsense or not, it's her opinion idiots. she's just optimistic of what lies ahead of expats here in qatar. at least there's somebody here who post optimistically, not just bashing and complaints about work, about drivers etc which i read everyday.

Flor wishing on a public forum isn't IMPOSING your wishes on the country.. jeez man... Can I say to my gf in my bedroom that I dislike certain policies about Qatar or will that result in your hyperventilation ?

Flor who said I work here? It's a tourism hub too didn't you know that? Check the figures..

Now since your personal insults about me are out of the way can you give me anything worth responding?

Flor, i do not wish. I act. I accepted my job offer only with a multiple exit - which means i do not secure an exit permit when i travel out. I renew this yearly and it is paid by my company.

The labour law is pro-employer for most parts - however if you negotiate against it or do not accept the offer, the employer will have no option but to accept your terms. Multiple exit is one example. Labour law requires 21 days gratuity - i get one month (cause my previous co. gave tht)...etc etc..

I recently shifted jobs but even an NOC was no problem - my company did not even dare oppose not giving me one. There is no requirement for protest rallies as i'm accepting my offer terms for myself - that is all i'm asking. I guess i offer "value" to the companies i work for - which i why i get my way and at my terms even though the law can easily work against me. That is all i'm saying - stand up to what your demands are if you value yourself. Be selfish - the rest of the expats have to follow regulation - not a bad thing for you, is it?

I now have an opportunity to work with some of the most dynamic Qatari's in Qatar. They understand the negative aspects of the labour law and understand that in order to attract the best global talent then have to go against the general "norms" in the country. I have been honest with them and they agree with me - which is where i get the respect and wish the same for you. You have to build a case for yourself and not accept things the way they are. It is difficult but not impossible. All the best.

about negative things about Qatar? I am for one is for abolition of exit permit or NOC.

Read again my comment, we are free to wish but can you imposed your wishes? Very clear I said, we WAIT as it will come sooner than we think?

You keep giving malicious intent on my comment and yet you just don't understand it. As long as it is a policy of the state, all we can do is to follow and HOPE and WISH that such policies be abolished.

So how such comment be given malicious view as sucking up to Qatar?

Do you have plan to do protest rallies here? Voice out openly your discontent about such issues? I SAID, continue to wish and hope, but all we can do is wait.

One question BP, are you not securing exit permit when travelling out?

Jeez, flor you come up with your nonsense again...i accepted the offer only if i got a multiple exit, i was working for a QFC listed firm where NOC's between QFC listed firms are not an issue, QFC listed firms even get a driving license across the counter besides other benefits...

Qatari's would respect you more if you were honest and not a suck up. They want to improve their country and are looking at global good practices. Things will improve for non QFC listed firms - it is just a question of time. Right now labour laws protect Qatari employers - so they wouldn't want to do away with it so easily. Cheaper that way to retain your employees with laws protecting you.

Flor, Be a man for once - you'll gain respect from your bosses, colleagues and QL members.

Next time, before you come to any country, review their laws and if you want to lecture them for anything, then it's up to you!

Actually you SUCKS! You have the same mentality of a someone I knew! And I pity you, are you even happy working here? Better go home and live longer! You just add stress to your life! You think someone like YOU can dictate in this country? I doubt if even in your company you can make policy?

but tell me, what is really happening? Just wait, sometimes, patience will keep you "healthy". Too much worrying is bad for your health!

It is easy for us to see from our point but have you thought of looking things at their point of view? You even want to lecture how bank will run their operation? Who are you? Just wish and WAIT! KAlas!

Flor I admire your act of sucking up to Qatar YET again but even Qatari royal family admits that they don't declare everything so I don't know what you are talking about...

even if they remove this or that. It is inherent for people to keep asking and wanting something but all of these thing are very clear when we opted to go and accept the job here.

It's the same thing as having different views and opinions and as always said by many, let us respect each other's opinions.

Now, we can say and wish for anything but all we can do is WAIT! For sure our wishes will come one by one! Hopefully, THE SOONEST! Inshallah!

I think the first issue which should be resolve is the two years ban. They can always control the visa for new applicants so this NOC thing needs to go...

EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) in their reports last year did state that GDP Growth would be affected based on restrictions on the entry to expats. With the current massive projects on the cards, Qatar does require both blue/white collar workers/professionals to assist in its development. However reforms will honestly take some time and i do not see into strategy/timeline going that way yet - NOC's, exit visits, visa restrictions on nationalities, labour rights etc are key issues.
