firstly, It has nothing to do with islam.

OK.. we can call it a knee jerk reaction.. Egypt , whilst professing to be a democracy, is in reality headed by a 'dictator'. So if he decides to do away with 300,000 or whatever pigs , because he regards it as risk mitigation than I suppose he has the right. remember that a few years ago, Egypt destroyed 25 million birds in response to a "possible" bird flu epidemic.

Ok, I'll say it one last time - they are slaughtering all the pigs in egypt, and the reason they are doing it has nothing to do with the virus.

By angel16• 4 May 2009 08:17

they are afraid to contact with the pigs.

OMG poor bacons...

as a veterinarian, first of all if they have a doubt for this pigs(general term-swine),they must do the nessecary procedure to make sure, that they are not infected by the virus, the word culling is seperation of undesirable animals, therefore their goverment will give the order to the higher veterinarian who is in charge to their goverment.as you say islam teach not to harm animals.so for this modern world we are facing now,we have all the technologies to determine this kind of virus,

angel, the cull has nothing to do with the virus. Why would they test for something it's got nothing to do with?

tallg.thats my question also.we are discussing this matter last night, and another question is - why they dont have a Vet.to test all their herd for this virus?

angel - the cull has nothing to do with the prevention or cure of swine flu. The Egyptian government have said that themselves.

By GodFather.• 4 May 2009 07:42
GodFather.

tallg.. absolutely spot on. Let alone if these pigs are haram or dirty or what ever their religion teaches them. But at the end of the day they are as much Gods creation as any other animal....

maybe they have the saying of:

prevention better than cure

I still don't understand how an Islamic country, whose religion teaches them not to harm animals, can go ahead and slaughter the entire population of pigs, in a measure which they themselves have admitted has nothing to do with swine flu.
