Do you think double-standards will be...
...applied in this case??!!
A member of the Kuwaiti royal family who was sentenced to death after trying to smuggle drugs into the country has appealed to his family for a pardon.
Sheikh Talal Nasser Al-Sabah was caught by Kuwaiti police with 10kg of cocaine and 165lb of hashish.
When sentencing him to death in 2007, Judge Humoud Al-Mutwatah said that he had “willingly walked the path of evil” and deserved no mercy.
But Al-Sabah has announced in the Kuwaiti press that he has appealed to the Emir to grant a pardon, and that senior members of the Royal Family were lobbying for him with the country's ruler, the UK-based Times reported on Wednesday.
It was the first time that a member of a Gulf royal family had been condemned to death by a court, and is widely seen as a test case for the impartiality of the law in a country where the convict's relative, the Emir, could pardon him.
The sheikh is the nephew of a previous Emir of Kuwait, Jaber al-Sabah, who died in 2006, and is one of hundreds of members of the ruling family, the paper added.
Since it introduced the death penalty 40 years ago, Kuwait has executed more than 70 people, most of them convicted for drug smuggling or murder.

.., well I think the likelihood is a pardon emerging in some form or other, although as it's been so publicly reported the Kuwaiti monarchy do have a chance to show (not in a way I think is particularly nice...) the world that they treat all transgressors with the same contempt & rules.
More likely he'll mysteriously by killed in a car accident or some other unfortunate incident...
A tough one to call, guess it also depends if he's a senior prince or just a lowly & more easily forgotten one.....

so lets go live in northern europe, because as far as i'm concerned, i believe these are the only ''real'' democracy in the world like denmark, sweden, norway, their ministers ride a bicycle to go to the office sometimes...

yes, it's always been that way, one rule for some etc.
no body should be above the law
brandylady, my view is you dont need to look at koweit to see that politicians, people of influence escape the law all the time ( see above names for exemple)

think britexpat has a point, wondered what your views are??
I think they will give him a pardon but make him disappear from view somehow so he doesn't embarrass them any further
One rule for one person, and another rule for another. That's not fair.
if he gets pardon he is lucky for his royal blood. but it will surely affect Kuwait's reputation unless if it matters to them...

Nice to have you back safe.. What car are you driving, so I can look out for it:0)
I think it will be a step by step approach.. Perhaps first they'll commute the death sentence and then perhaps reduce and commute the sentence..
I agree that the rich and famous get away with things all over the world.. I always recall the case of DeLorien mnany many years ago.. Caught red handed and got away..
in my opinion, deed already done, pardon on the way, what do you think britexpat???
If the pardon was granted , then it would be a blatant abuse of power..
even in democratic countries the powerful manage to escape the law, so imagine in other place....

more Princes than you can shake a stick at. The son of a prince is a prince, and so on. The article says hundreds - more like thousands. They won't miss one!
