Convert to Islam for a 6 months trial?

I was wondering whether it is possible for someone to convert to Islam for a period of 6 months to have a firsthand experience about the religion, and then revert back to his/her original religion?
Would he/she be called an apostate then?
What does the Qu'ran say about this?

PM: Clap, Clap, clap, clap, bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Clap, clap, clap, Go PM! Go! :)

Just wanna add that several mixed couples here in Portugal are happy together without the wife converting, so, i agree with Abu and PM, the woman needs to study and then decide to convert or not :)

Oh dear, the idea of converting for a six months trial period is about as good as trying a marriage for the same time period. Sorry, it's all or nothing in both of those commitments.

Agree with Abu, American and Brit...

Well, this is itself a blessing from Allah that one gets enough time (life) to understand the true word and he takes its own time to make a self concious decision and enter into the most beautiful truth 'Islam'

My advise make a sincere intention and work hard, do good homework and than make your decision...but doing something for trial and moving away is not sensible and advisable specially in case of changing a complete code of life towards the TRUTH..and then later after some time changing again..

All the best...

Took me about 6 months of contemplation and studying to get to the point where I believed that Islaam the true religion sent by God to mankind.

But it took me about another 2 years to get to the point where I would say I was actually implementing the religion in the way I wanted to...

I would advise you to study and contemplate... Knowledge precedes action & speech my friend...

As Abu indicated, you should read about all aspects of the religion first. You can also, "practice" it, and then make a concious dcision whether to convert or not.

Howeer, deciding on a specific timeframe beforehand makes no sense or serve any purpose.

abuamerican is right. i have a friend who looked into the religion, adopted the lifestyle (tried to pray, fast, refrained from pork and alcohol) for a year. he also spoke with his family and friends about his decision. when he felt comfortable with the idea of being a muslim, only then he 'formally' accepted islam (which is saying shahada in the presence of two men).
