I'm not sure what u mean about the "are you serious" but if I understand you correctly.. yes.. since the U.S is not a Muslim country.. sometimes a while after the mosque is built a bar opens down the street.. I don't think anybody can object to that.. unless the bar is really disrupting to the community in that area... Muslim can't control who opens what.. actually nobdoy does unless it's the city.. and the business is not disruptive or have any problems with the community!

Legal_pad--Pork is not to Muslims and Jews what a cross is to vampires. It is not going to drive anyone away. Otherwise invading armies would merely need to drive around with pieces of bacon attached to their tanks.

I do think it is ironic people are complaining about racial profiling on this thread given how much of it transpires here.

All religious places are evil. They teach hatred to people. Religious teachers plant the seed of hatred in people.

your answer is weird Legal Pad! and just remember.. the U.S is a free country! and yes there are many "white meat" stores by mosques.. or even bars! nobody objects or objected to that!

By starwars• 3 Apr 2011 09:38

Whats the problem of having a restaurant with white meat?

By anonymous• 2 Apr 2011 19:08
anonymous

Don't worry Mr. M, your wishes would come true, but just remenber someone is going to build a restaurant that specializes only in the other "White Meat" just across the street in front of the center.

By Mr M.• 31 Mar 2011 17:17
Mr M.

Some people unfortunately, associate all muslims in America as terrorists and people who always upto some sort of trouble, but i hope the plan to build the Islamic center goes through unscathed ISHA ALLAH.

Brit, he may want to "belong"....And the "old dear" and her husband are probably involved in what is REALLY going on.....The guy who sold the land...well, he probably wanted to spite somebody and is now regretting it....politics in a small town....;)

And the Muslims are caught up in it.

I would agree partly..

Listening to the old dear , who has been in the town for 9 generations and owns the big house, it seems that she wants the status quo.

Similarly, the guy who sold the land at auction is probably pissed at getting a lower price..

However, I do believe that the main cause is lack of understanding and bigotry. What really surprise me was the attitude of the Black guy.. :O(

Not at all. I was responding about what Cabbage said specifically about the 'Hick vote' and the general comments about how hypocritical America is for having such racist/phobic citizens despite claiming all of its freedoms.

My point is that what country's citizens are not racist and phobic, and can you imagine what other countries would be like (including this one) if suddenly its peoples lived in democracies? In such a comparison I would say Americans are generally more open-minded and reasonable than the vast majority of people. I certainly would prefer to live in an American democratic state than a Gulf democratic state or a truly democratic British state.

By britexpat• 30 Mar 2011 23:16

you are going off at a tangent. No one is condemning the US.. we are condemning the town and its bigoted people.

I agree with what has been said about the racism and bigotry of these people, etc.

But I think the condemnation of the US here is a bit beyond the pale. I've lived in quite a few countries including the US (I'm not American), and I have found each country to be every bit as racist and phobic as the other. The Americans have their phobias, yes, but so too do the people living in Qatar. The primary difference is that whereas racism in the US is frowned upon, in other states, including this one, it is an entrenched, accepted part of the society. In fact, I have found myself making more racially-based assumptions since living in the Middle East. At least in the US people do not gawk at a Filipina doctor or a Sri Lankan professor, whereas if either women went to the mall here they would be pushed aside, spoken down to and handed packages to carry--and that is just from other workers. A professional Indonesian friend started to cover (she is not Muslim) because she was tired of being handed bags by Arab women on the assumption she was a maid or shop attendant.

Personally, I am glad Qatar is not a democracy. Can you imagine how wretched it would be like if suddenly it had a government like the US? I have a great deal of admiration for its current leaders and their liberal reforms, and I would worry about the kind of backward direction a democracy here would take the country. One only needs to listen to the call-in morning programs on the radio to get of sense of where a populist movement would take this place. Of course, the same could be said of a host of other countries; that is the problem with democracy: ordinary people are phobic and conservative.

well said -

these are narrow minded bigots who don't know about the tolerance that their own religion preaches.

brit, after having given this a little more thought...what strikes me as odd, is that these people have lived in the same community ,with their own places of worship, for about 20 odd years without problems.

How come, all of a sudden, there is trouble? I think this has very little, if nothing to do with religion...I think it has to do with land and money, as simple as that. Somebody is not happy and started to stir s h i t. And not surprisingly, the masses fall for it.

Happens in all kinds of places.

oh , and that lawyer, lol, lawyer, was scarily amusing waffling on about sha'ria, which he clearly knows nothing about.

By britexpat• 30 Mar 2011 22:53

At this moment the issue is about the right to build a place of worship - which is allowed under the constitution.

if that place is then found to be carrying out illegal activities, then the authorities must take action.

these are narrow minded bigots who don't know about the tolerance that their own religion preaches.

please read the article I attached earler..

brit, it may have something to do with it all. IF, and I am just saying IF this center were to be sponsored by an yet to be known third party, then this third party may have particular ideas on how this center could be run/ used for.

They are in fact more dangerous than so called 'Islamic fundematilists' in my eyes.

I can cope with Muslims/Arabs who are angry about how they have been treated - that is justified.

But for a Southern Hick that has no idea about Islam/ Middle East or The Gulf...ignore them.

This is the sad and tragic thing though - most US politicians rely on the 'Hick Vote'...........

No wonder at some time (Bush) was/is hated and he is up there with Bulsahir- ooops that was a clone of Bush and Bair :-)

These are small time hicks led by narrow minded clerics who preach intolerance in the name of religion. Much like many Muslim clerics in various countries.

The worrying thing is that this is hapening in a country that stands for freedom and liberty.

why protestors were holding the israeli flags during rally, is that specific area ruled by jews!!

now they are threatened but later they will be following the teachings of islam... Inshallah!

One thing I do wonder about though...they raised the money for the land from the community there. But where does the money for building the mosque come from?

And what kind of influence will the party that will give the money have on things?

Why don't they just sit down together, talk , and listen to each other?

After that they can see where they want to go with this...together.

Saw 10 minutes - had enough.

Racist, uneducated idiots is what springs to mind.

My advice - ignore it - stay strong in your faith.

There is nothing wrong with Islam - however, Muslims do need to look at 'radical Muslims' who do you harm.

Just like us Catholics needed to take a long hard look on some of our stances.

These people are racists - end off!

Watched both youtube postings and there is no need at all for them to protest about a Mosque being built.

If they are ‘truly Christian’ they should embrace Islam as they do Judaism – after all it is just another Abrahamic religion.

Why fear a religion?

I say - Fear the people that cause mayhem under the name of ‘religion’ but not the religion itself.

These so called ‘Christians’ – ‘are sounding just as bad’ as the ‘radical Muslims’ they say they don’t like.

Idiots!

Lets face it, Lately World domination, Destruccion of Israel and Implementation of that Sharia Law?

I WOULD BE APPREHENSIVE, If THAT IS THE CASE!

But not all Moslems are alike, Thanks Jesus for that one.

it's getting worse in the U.S.. I must admit.. when we found a job opportunity in Qatar.. the first thing I thought about "sigh.. I don't have to live with islamophobic people anymore"

I know there are many many many open minded people..but those few narrow minded people ruin it for all of us Muslims in the U.S!! they make the U.S not feel like home anymore!!

By britexpat• 30 Mar 2011 20:19

A sad reflection on society where freedom to practice religion is entitled to protection under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

What is interesting is the narrow mindedness of some of the people. What is sad is that a black man is leading the protest, yet he forgets how his own people suffered from segregation and racism.
