AlJazeera: Qatar's diplomatic balancing act

via Al Jazeera English

Qatar, economically dependent on both Iran and the United States, will need to draw on its renowned diplomatic skills to maintain relations with both.

Qatar's diplomatic relationship with Iran sets it apart from its neighbours. While most Gulf states keep Iran at a distance, Doha, the Qatari capital, often appears keen to close the gap.

While Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, toured the Gulf this week, trying to drum up support for new sanctions against Iran, Qatar has spoken out in favour of Tehran's right to develop nuclear technology.

Al Jazeera's Dan Nolan reports from Doha on the trickiest diplomatic task the country has yet taken on.

Its the direct reporting that irk the west (no censor when it natters)and the seemingly collobration with organisation. Thats how they get their juicy news. Heard that it's headquarters was nearly bombed during the iraq war.

cryogenic said and since when was al jazeera balanced? ...

believe it or not al jazeera is highly rated around the world along with two others.

They are the three organisations that monitor each others broadcast, they are CNN, The BBC and Al Jazeera.

If they are opinonated then so is every other news service in the world

regards

al jazeera is one of the most opinionated, biased, west bashing news networks... the title is a paradox... al jazeera hardly does any balancing or diplomatic tight rope walking... cos all you see on al jazeera is US bashing and palestine stories 24X7.

while every person can have his personal views on israel and palestine crisis or america.. for a so called "news network" to be so opinionated and still pretend to be balanced is a laugh.

Its like trying to please your older brother for protection and pleasing your younger sister for a slice of butter. The balancing act must be there to protect both herself from security aspect, not economy as qatar is already rich. The problem is qatar sits too close to iran to ignore its immediate threat from imminent strike by short range missiles and would therefore would like to please her as much as it can. On the back stage, it would be different. She still requires blanket protection from superpower US. Now thats a clash of diplomacy and conspiracy.

Nuclear power is associated with progress...

And US who has used it on humankind should be the last person to play Nuclear Police.

Not only Nuclear Power US doesnt want...the gulf to use Hydrocarbon resources.....China to use its Coal reserves...Africa cannot have Industries...GCC need not even think about Nuclear as they have so much Oil....duh!!!

All this Climate Change Al-Gore-crap-talk when USA is using 10 times more energy than China!!!
