Hi Mates,

I hope we don't even want a chance of any protest here in Qatar. It will bring no other than evil to country's welfare.

Will appreciate if we join hands for a noble cause & LIKE this page created.

most of the major tribes are involved in govt in one way or the other. Its not like Saudi where every govt sector is under the control of the royal family.

An expat worker might find a lot of reasons to protest, but can never demand changes in the policies of the state. And the citizens have it the best, kind of living in a sheltered cocoon, as long as they have the unlimited oil money coming in it is in their best interest to have a single ruling family. With such a lot of money in the state's coiffures, any elected leader will be left with a choice of making as much money as possible before the term ends, versus the best interest of the state. The people of this state are doing splendidly now under the Emir and don’t need democracy as long as the oil money is there. Now whether they need more participation in government affairs, under the rule of the Emir, is another matter best left to the citizens to decide, …. Qatar is not deprived in a way the troubled neighbors are and so the same revolution that happened there need not necessarily happen here.

aercel spot on! These people who want protests to happen in Qatar are crazy or they have some sinister motive! Protests were required in Libya and Egypt and it happened there...all in aid of something. But over here it is not at all required! They are fool who wants street protests to happen here.

By anonymous• 2 Mar 2011 23:19
anonymous

do you know of the law that permits strike action? What about holding peaceful demonstrations? I not saying that Qataris would - but what if they wanted to. Is it allowed?

By anonymous• 2 Mar 2011 23:16
anonymous

thanks Aladdin. It a sad reflection of the working condition some people are exposed to. I work at Ras Laffan and there are suicides every month in the workers camp. Really depressing stuff.

By nomerci• 2 Mar 2011 22:30

dodgy, do you actually live in Qatar?

By arecel• 2 Mar 2011 22:28
arecel

dodgy, we are talking about political process. if the issues involved are work-related as i said, yes, we have rights.

By anonymous• 2 Mar 2011 15:35
anonymous

as an expat - you have no rights in Qatar?? What does human rights mean to you Arecel?? Some humans? Some people are sub-human?

Dont have a right to peaceful protest in Qatar. WOW!

By arecel• 2 Mar 2011 10:58
arecel

i find ur comment funny majlis. and why should you think that expats (non citizens) have the right to protests in their adoptive country? maybe you can file cases in the human rights commissions or at the labor department for work-related issues. but to protests against governent policies? darling, you are not a citizen therefore your rights with regards to political participations are curtailed. that is true in my country, and is true anywhere else.

By anonymous• 1 Mar 2011 22:13
anonymous

no not locals - the expat from developing nations. Peaceful protests and strike action. Shoot to kill to break up the protest/strike action?

Are you permitted to hold a demonstration in Qatar??

By arecel• 1 Mar 2011 22:07
arecel

seriously, i find it next to impossible. why? coz, i don't think the locals would incite/ make violent protests in the first place.

By anonymous• 1 Mar 2011 21:16
anonymous

no. that was the premise of my question. Do you think that COULD NOT happen here?

By arecel• 1 Mar 2011 21:13
arecel

u think the only response is to shoot? think again.

By anonymous• 1 Mar 2011 21:12
anonymous

More responsive??? So they would they shoot to kill more people than in other coutries?

By arecel• 1 Mar 2011 21:02
arecel

i think given that unrest are in neighboring countries, the government here will be much more responsive, yes.

By anonymous• 1 Mar 2011 18:28

arcel - you think the regime here would respond differently if there was a mass peaceful protest???

By arecel• 1 Mar 2011 09:24

malis70, i'll be there on friday. although i am just an expat, i would like to show support to the Royal Family and to the gov.t of qatar. I want change, yes, especially to the current sponsorship system BUT i don't want what happened in North African countries and to Bahrain and Oman to descend on all of us here. God help us. These people are now addicted to the streets. People Power rev should be used only for removing despots who clung to power for gazillion years. After that, all parties must meet and discuss the social reforms needed to form a strong government. Continuing the street protests will just weaken the whole government system IMHO. As for Qatar, the situation here does not warrant street protests. If the locals feel that they need social reforms, I urge them to be level headed and resort to dialogues.

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 20:19
anonymous

what are they changing??? Could it possibly be their social conditions??? Still dont get it?

By nomerci• 28 Feb 2011 20:14

dodgy, no , I can't.

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 20:12

Nomerci - Change their country to improve .........??? Can you make the connection??

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 20:11
anonymous

If we 'guests' are not happy with our working conditions we can leave (eventually).

These poor people who are fighting for democracy have been stuck with despots all their lives.

They have every right to do what they can to bring changes to THEIR country.

Qatar is not my country so I do not have the right to demonstrate against what happens here. I many not like a few things but if I was that bothered I would leave.

By nomerci• 28 Feb 2011 20:06
nomerci

Dodgy, yes , different. Obviously, there is a difference if citizens are demonstrating to change THEIR country, versus guest workers demonstrating to improve their situation.

Which will not happen anyway.

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 20:03
anonymous

NOMERCI - different?? Fighting to improve one's living and working conditions??

At least for the next decade.. Some people told me that Mubarak, Zain Al Abidin, and Qadhafi now hates Al Jazeera and who knows what are they thinking of right now

By nomerci• 28 Feb 2011 20:01
nomerci

dodgy, but that would be a totally different situation than in the other countries. Where it was the citizens that demanded change.

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 19:58
anonymous

Nomerci -who?? One word - workers!

By nomerci• 28 Feb 2011 19:43

dodgy, who would demonstrate against those?

And you surely are not comparing the situation of the house of Saud to here?

By anonymous• 28 Feb 2011 19:29

AbuAmerican - really???? No chance of strike action against extreme exploitation and falling health and safety stds?????

Have a look at the House of Saud.

You can do so if you have a real reason for it.

This is a very serious matter and it is not a joke and there is no reason to do so in a country like Qatar who is developing in the right direction. Manifestation is not a fashion or a reason to go out and have fun it is a real matter and must have a real reason.

I am quite sure that people who have done that are people who are against Al Jazzera and Qatar and it has nothing to do with freedom. They are just trying to payback Al Jazera and make them busy with something else rather than the real Ugly truth of our leaders in the Arab world.

I am 200% against any manifestation in Qatar and I invite you all to support the Royal Family of Qatar and the government of Qatar next Friday the 4th of March at 14:00 in the front of the Museum of Islamic Art, DOHA

and i don't think people will commit such acts of stupidity here in Qatar. The unemployment rate here is lower than those countries who protested.

Let us pray that the call for revolution in Qatar will not happen.

What else the citizens of Qatar want? They have everything they want and need. Qatar is rich country and its citizens have all the benefits. Emir loves his people and care for them.I think other countries are just envy and if there are people who will start the revolution, for sure it is not the Qataris. I believe that Qataris love Emir so much because he cares for them and knows and provides what his people needs.

Protest for salary increase against our boss.. Okey! hehehe

Absolutely right! Some foolish copycats want to do what the other Arabs are doing. They are crazy!

There is absolutely no need of protests here. I think they want to protest because they are tired of having too much wealth, safety & security.

I think if they have no work they should take broom and sweep the sand in the desert!
