It seems perfectly clear that you guys stubbornly took your position and simply do not hear what the original poster is trying to say.

I's a "cry for help" message, you have no idea what you are advising. Here in Qatar there is no such thing i guess as aggressive dogs. I am not animal hater at all, i have three cats and a dog back home and i do too hate people hurting animals, but in this case it's not hurting that the poster is after. They need a device to actually protect human life. a girl in my home town was attacked by a group of 6 angry dogs. She was a hundred meters away from them when they saw her and rushed after her. Let me tell you - it was stupid of her to stand still, she was brutally bitten, she survived only because a guy who was passing by heard screams and scared the dogs away with a branch of old tree he found there.

My little sister and my mom both are terrified to death of the groups of dogs that run around day and night, twice they actually had to run not to be bitten.

So keep your 'stand still and they won't hurt you" comments in your kind animal shelters and instead just try to help if you can. It's you who is ill informed and cannot see anything farther than your own little village.

i realize it's a pretty old thread, but if you did find the dog whistle in Qatar, please do let me know, my sister asks me for it every time we speak and i do feel she is terrified of those dogs.

P.S. no intention to sound rude, but it's hard to read comments of people who have no idea what they are actually talking about and never met with anything like that in their life before when they have to fear for their loved ones' lives.

Dogs chase things that move, if you stand still and make no eye contact they are unlikely to approach you unless it is to sniff.

Tell your friends to look up dog behaviour online. You and they are very ill informed about animal behaviour whether they are strays or not from the comments you have made.

However, failing educating yourselves, carry a spray bottle with lemon juice and water. Spray the offending animals when they are within 1 meter or so. They will learn to avoid them without being harmed.

This was asked for someone in India as there are many stray dogs which follow innocent people and bite them most of the time. They wanted me to find out and get one device for them and hey how foolish would that be when a dog is running after you and you stand still infront of it...?? Please let me know as its something very serious for someone as it has become a problem for them to get out of their house and if at all they manage to do that, they cant get it.. so please let me know if its available here and where.

Please DON"T throw stones at dogs. That is cruel. They don't ask to be abandoned and can't understand why humans love and care for them, then throw them out to fend for themselves in this awful place. They have feelings too.Really they do. You can't find a more faithful friend than a dog. They love you no matter what, they don't judge you.

Where are you going that you are so inundated with dogs you need a device to shoo them off?

As an earlier poster said, if you stand still, cross your arms over your chest and look up at the sky (anywhere but at the dog) they will 90% of the time leave you alone (all humans within sight will think you're nuts but hey - you're asking about the dog).

Allegedly, if you want to keep them out of your garden a bottle filled with plain water works!

Best thing to do is to stand completely still. The dog will take a quick sniff, decide that you are boring, and then go off somewhere else.

The worst thing you can do is start making a commotion with whistles or other noisy items, or to try to run away, as this will tell the dog that you want to play.

If the dog is with a responsible owner, the owner will recognise when somebody doesn't want a dog near them and keep it at a distance.
