Should I take my dogs to Doha?
I have a 90lb (40kg) black lab mix and a 65lb (30kg) collie mix. I am moving to Doha in February from the United States. I am having trouble finding someone to adopt my dogs here so I am considering bringing them with us to Doha. Does anyone know the approximate cost to transport and get them through Qatar customs? They are also very energetic need exercise. Is there a beach or some other type of area I can let them run around off-leash? Is there ex-pat housing near any of these areas? I know it is too hot in the summer daytime for this, but will it also be too hot in the evening? Finally, is there any type of ex-pat housing the allows dogs and has a private fenced yard area for two large dogs to play? Thanks for any replies.
Please bring your dogs here because my dogs would like some new friends!!
things here can get pretty bad in the summer, but many dogs live here and adjust just fine, like we do. My dogs also came from US, but they are smaller breed, Shih-Tzu's. Wwe actually have already given birth to a litter of 5 pups and have sold them all successfully. You will be surprized how well they will adjust.
The cost is nothing compared to other places. There is no quarantine time required when they get here. what I did, was hired a pet relocator to handle all the little details and they really did a fantastic job. you can search on the internet for one you like. If you love your dogs, like I love mine- no price is too much! really, get some estimates and the price here on this end is very inexpensive, but buying good food has been kind of a challenge, but now we just go to the vet for the science diet.
Sorry Aeo but you are completely mistaken. You CAN have dogs in the house (as long as you check with your landlord first), there ARE beaches you can take them to and people DO walk their dogs around where they live.
As I said in my previous post, it's easy to have dogs in Qatar and loads of us do!!
Sorry but dogs arn't a big thing in doha or anywhere in the middle east for that matter, only if you cant find a place to keep them, and this should be seen as a last resort, bring them to qatar, you cant have dogs inside the house so keep them out of your house, if you dont have a garden that going to be a problem, and sadly there is no parks or public gardans around doha for you to let them off-lech, and beachs are to crowded for that and you wont really be able to take them for a walk anywhere, most shops and people hate dogs..., besides there almost no roads to walk on, everydrives, even if its just 10 meters away, overall, bring them to qatar is going to be a hastle so i say that you should leave them in the hands of someone good
If you do a quick search on Qatar Living you'll find plenty of info about this, and as chelsea said in general there are no problems bringing your dogs here. If you do a search you'll also find info on pet re-locators.
I would definitely recommend bringing your dogs with you - I know I wouldn't be able to leave mine behind if I moved.
There are lots of horror stories about having dogs here in Qatar but a lot of us do have them and it's fine. There are a lot of housing that allow dogs and will have a big enough yard - you just need to check with your landlord that it's ok to have pets there.
All us dogs owners have our different beaches where we take our dogs and the time of year dictates what time you walk them!! In the summer its 5am but in the winter its ok at anytime of the day.
It's relatively easy to bring dogs into Qatar. If you are travelling with someone else it might be possible to bring them as accompanied baggage which will be the cheapest and easiest way. You will need someone in Qatar to get you the import permit and advise you of any other paperwork needed for the export side of things.
If you need any more information then email [email protected] and they will get back to you with more information.
