Advice on the chicken that adopted me.

I live in a compound, which like most is walled in. I have a very small yard (garden), which amounts to a courtyard with quite a bit of vegetation. About 3 weeks ago, a chicken (hen) decided to pay me a visit...and has decided to stay. I make sure she has access to water, and sometimes I give her food. She frequently gets on the window sill outside the kitchen and peers in. She is able to get out of the sun but I'm concerned that as it continues to get hotter, she won't be able to get out of the heat. I don't mind her being around at all, I'm just concerned about her well-being. Any ideas as to what I should do with her...and NO, I am not going to serve her up on a platter, and I am not going to give her to anybody who thinks they're going to serve her up on a platter - if you know what I mean.

Very interesting question lady..... If i am in your place along with the same heart i would like to build a small house for her in my garden. But sure without cooling she is your guest in this world and you are a killer, its better you should hand it over to me............ but if you really love her you have to accommodate her with proper living standards. Best of luck

Provide a coop as best you can, you'll know if its good enough as if she made it in, she can leave. Provide water, shade etc and enjoy the eggs...no males required for that job :)

Make her a lil house, maybe a bigger box or so, in the shadow. Also, hens like to "bath" in sand but at 50 degrees maybe she'd prefer cold water?

Gift her a rooster.

And let not temptation lead thee into evil especially when you are hungry!

You should report to security who is always available at the gate before coming to any house in your compound.

Robby, I was thinking I wished she was a rooster because I love to hear the sound of a rooster in the early morning. Yeah, just what I need: 2 chickens shittin' everywhere...

when i would be in your shoes, i would present her a husband, and am sure she will be happy and you will get everyday an egg, and build for her AND her husband a small place to stay out of heat (even she was born in Qatar and i think used about heat)

congratulations that you have a new neighbors.

by the way with her husband there you wont need an alrm to awake and you can be sure you will be at work everyday on time.
