Hey folks,

Everybody must have read the news of 99 years lease/ownership of properties in qatar. So Qatar is feeling the cash crunch and is in recession. Thats why Qatar has finally decided to accept the needy expats to stay for a long time. 99 years!!! what a world. the rich needs the poor and the poor needs the rich, noone is independent especially in this modern age. Despite the oil and gas reserves, Qatar has to bow down to the global meltdown, whatever the experts call it or excuse the necessity by giving different reasons. Hope good news for some expats who can afford...But still need to know more on the law, what if the law is change once they are out of the crunch....So Is Qatar is on the verge of becoming 2nd Dubai of the Gulf !

I thought they allowed the scheme was put in place at least 12 months ago, but only recently has anyone actually purchased a property.

In one of the articles (Gulf Times I think) it gave a big list of all the areas where ex-pats could buy, and then in the next sentence said that only the Al Saad region is available at the moment. Something odd like that.

This has been in the works since oil was at $147, and unrelated to the current recession.

99 years lease does not mean Qatar is giving you visa for 99 years.

The post is stupid because the guy doesn't understand why they are doing it, but Qatarilady the educated and experience expats will not settle here as they have no rights.

I believe the aim is to attract educated and experienced expats to live in Qatar and help modernise it
