Any one willing to share their thoughts on what companies on the Qatar Exchange are good buys ? Esp coz now dividend season is approaching and year end results are about to be released.
LP.. I agree thts y they call it 'Crisis' or 'disaster' when something unpredictable happens in the market. And believe me people who can actually predict stock market reaction Don't work at all :)
No investor has predicted the current crisis in the Euro-zone! They were ALL taken by surprise! If you can 'predict' how the stock market will behave, you don't have to work anymore.
I understand your point but how can you tell the effect of a global event on local shares? As you said, my point is (most of the times liquidity effects the market) - shares go up/down for no real reason. A good market is where investors can predict the outcome of their investment, whether positive or negative and i don't think your investment is predictable in Qatari stock market. Your "opportunities" are more likely based on your luck, if run out of luck you are in loss or left with zero effect (Frozen investment)
Fluctuations in Qatar happen as a result of global events such as the oil price. Also in part as a result of poor liquidity. ie they are not enough buyers and sellers
Because of this some shares go up or down by 5% for no real reason. You have to determine what is the fair value - based on price relative to earnings and then buy. Price to Book value etc
Because of these fluctuations there is also opportunities
Ieadamy, OK i admit im not such a "long term" investor in Qatari Stock Market. You seem more experiences so i like to ask you this, how would you define fluctuations in shares in Qatar market? i mean what factors are involved ?
I disagree - being someone who has invested for longer time frame. Qatari companies pay more dividends than most companies in the world. Also, while other companies are making losses Qatari companies are doing v well. Yes, there are people who have been burnt- but these were people who are buying shares near their highs and the stock has been going for no reason ie no fundamentals.

Also, what other avenues are there out there in the current environment ? Gold is overpriced, property prices are still correcting
