Hi all,

I am an experienced IT professinal with demonstrated strong skills. Currently i am working for a big swiss bank and have worked for some many world class companies in germany and switzerland.
Now the problem: i am trying to get a job in uae/qatar/bahrain. I wrote over 30 applications (I have a very good CV with reference letters and persons) ==> result: nothing, not even an refusal or a single word. I choosed only jobs where i met the requirements, for some of them there are not many, which fulfill the requirements (e.g. SOA and EAI) , even in europe and south asia there are only few.

what i am doing wrong? or is there something wrong in the selection process?

P.S. I have a very good salary here (will never get it there), i have other reasons for the move (family, long-term planning, ... )

Companies advertise jobs so it looks like their business is doing well....when these jobs actually dont exist.

This is common practice esp in IT.

There is a recession and eveyone seems to be looking to the Gulf esp Qatar at the moment

Anyone who has a secure job with decent salary just needs to stay put at the moment.

Elley,

If you really want to move here, try to do it through a head hunter like Monster (http://www.monstergulf.com/index.html) and many others alike. Try to approach those that specialize in your field (I believe Monster, does).

It works better if you first meet them in person, go through an interview with them so they can get a personal insight of your profile and better look for the position and location the suits you.

They will eventually call you for interviews within your expectations.

I think this is the best way to go, particularly in this region. Head hunters know well the potential employers and their needs. As the middle-man, they will be there to fill the gap left by the lack of feedback you have been experiencing.

They will also inform you if this is a quite period and/or when chances will improve.

Good Luck!

Elley,

My post above was not meant to be negative or to divert you from your objectives.

It was just something you are ought to know when you start dealing with this region. With all respect, one of the reasons you are not receiving feedback from your applications is due to the lack of professionalism common here. Commitments are not often kept; feedback is not often given, etc, etc, etc... Even the banking industry (within the same bank) has huge gaps of level services when compared to more mature markets. The Middle East and particularly Qatar, are very young (immature) markets and often with people at the top appointed by family name (only).

No matter how honest and open some may be about it, we can only have a grasp of the reality once we are here.

Be prepared and do not expect businesses are run the way they are where you are at the moment, including HR departments of major companies!

hi

1. the question is: I never got a response (positiv, negativ ... whatever).

2. Why not just few applications if you completly fulfill the requirements (in some areas there are so many with the required skills)?

P.S. : I have worked also for others (IBM, BMW, ...), not only financials

Over 30 applications is that all - i wrote over 100 to get my job.

Well banking and financial areas in crisis at moment. You can check online versions of gulf papers for jobs. You may wich to try agencies.

In the middle east people talk about "islamic finance' do you have any experience in this - u may need training?

Elley,

I would stay where you are. The level of professionalism and work ethics in this region are extremely low.
