Andeee, well said. I have 7 GCEs and can do better than most of those salaries. An MBA is only useful if you use it.

I once worked with a guy who had TWO different degrees, but was still a thick idiot!

Cheru, see, I laugh too :o)

When I came to Qatar with a Degree (Bachelors)it was really difficult to get a job here (before 80)and I spent almost one year begging a job and I got the job of a Salesman where my salary was below Qr. 2000/- and at that time there was a man who was living in my flat. He did not go to the primary school. He was s Supervisor in the Navy (Cook) and he was drawing Qr. 8000 pm at that time and I was laughing at my degree certificate.

Having a degree does not always guarantee getting a job so I dont thing its THAAAAAAT important to have a degree... if you can afford it yes go for it but a lot of people dont have a degree and they are sitting at the top of the ladder....

Any engineering degree that can be applied to the oil & gas or petrochemicals industry, I'd suggest, if you're talking Qatar-specific industries. Don't have figures to hand, but typically a four-year degree and good salaries throughout the subsequent career.
