Life as teacher at Qatar University

Hi there, I am new to the forum and considering a move to Doha (with wife and kids).

I found a couple of positions at Qatar University that may interest me, one as a lecturer, the other as an assistant/associate professor. Apart from the info I gather from the job ad, confirmed by old post here in the forum, I would like to ask more (and updated) info on:

- How is it like? What is the pressure, the free time management, the actual holiday that you get, the burden, the demands from you, the request to engage in research, activity, committees, meetings, etc.

I suppose the answer would be different for a lecturer than a assistant/associate professor level (and I don't know which one, if any, I would apply for), so all answers are welcome. I am in science (not ESL teacher), if that makes a difference.

Also, apart from QU, are there other places where it is better (economically or otherwise) to work for?

Thanks,

Matcube

at QU. They have all extended their contracts so it must be ok! For them, it was all an entry level post. The hours and stress are quite reasonable, the pay is OK, not great. I do know, that they only get the government benefits (ie 2 had wives that delivered babies in Doha and HAD to go to Hamad Hospital, meaning the husbands were not allowed in.) Also, they all plan to leave before their children start school as that allowance is a joke. I would also try the Qatar Foundation Universities

Hey Matcube

Teacher Life at QU depend on lecture you giving, but sure there will less pressure than other country, here most likely you will have around 25 to 40 student in one class, and as you know one subject like either 3 times a week or 2 times a week, either 1 hour class, or 1.30 hours class, plus you will have 2 times for each class office hour, and depend on you how many subject you will teach, for extra information, you can go to QU site and see science syllabus,

Regarding to research there are couple research, but actualy less, but some proffesors also doing reserach for companies,

and for Meetings, there are meeting , like 2 times a month, and depend sometimes require.

Better for you go to QU website and choose directory and find science Dean and contact him, he is know better.

For Annual Leave, actualy you will have as normal 40 days leave in year, but in case if you giving summer course it is up to you. pluse you will have 10 days off for Eid Alfiter Holiday, and 10 days for Eid Al-Atha, pluse you will have one week spring vacation.

All the best for you
