VG, I agree to an extent. I did mention in my above post that some risks cannot be managed. One cannot predict the future, it is a reality. Take the best forecasts from world class analysts, you often see things just go other way around. Fed Chairman's many predictions about the economy were merely a joke.

I wonder why many professional traders and big investment banks lost billions in trading. Didn't they know the risk management techniques? Or were they just too greedy?

My whole point is that it is close to gambling and if you manage the risk so effectively e.g. diversified portfolio, you earn peanuts which is not worth the investment. If you don't do that you might make good money, but you might lose your fortune too. I agree that people make billions in this business, but they are the billionaires who control and shape the market. All other small investors contribute to their wealth by losing their hard-earned money.

Mathboy, even though I predict the future in high accuracy, the real trader should use the risk management in any form and in any way, this will end up with little profits or small losses.

This is how it works.

Do you agree with that?

Vip-Gold, I spent 10 years in this industry so definitely I know at least a few things about it. It is not gambling but very close to gambling. Is it not highly speculative?

In simple words you are trying to predict future. With no forecast you can predict future. There are so many things that cannot be gauged by any analysis and forecasts. There are hundreds of example from subprime crises to current global economic recession which happened mainly because some people 'gambled' on others' money.

There is a wise saying that "Forecast is a dangerous thing, particularly if it is about future!"

It is investment business not Gambling games Mr. Mathboy

You have bad experience in the business as long as you are trading yourself with no experiences or trainings.

More than trillions of dollars going on with investments every day, if there are no gainers; there will be no losers then. It is how to manage the trade.

Take care

A quick way to poverty.

Being a former stock exchange employee and investment banker in Europe, I advise people not to get into this business unless you are ready to lose your hard-earned money. Consultants walk away with their fee and commissions and you are left crying for rest of your life. This whole business is highly speculative in nature and chances to lose are ten times greater than chances to win. Majority of the investment bankers and traders make money in terms of fee and commissions from managing others' investment portfolios, not their own.
