Interested in English/Spanish Teaching
I am an American woman interested in moving to Qatar. I would like to hear from language teachers about what opportunities there are to teach English / Spanish? I will be in Qatar the 1st week of January 2010.
I am open to finding work in any field. I have experience as a social worker in schools and adoptions, and have degrees in social work administration and psychology.
Thank you so much!
I don't know what your salary expectations are but be aware that Qatar can be expensive if you don't get housing and airfare and medical included. You have to be sponsored to work here, most are hired "off shore" and their sponsor arranges for the correct documentation.
This is not like Asia where you walk in and announce your availability - do you have EFL teaching qualifications? Just being a native speaker is not going to get you a job. Most of the better employers require a related EFL Master's degree and 3 years of post grad experience.
You may have better luck with social work and psychology job opportunities - adoptions are not allowed in Islam but there are lots of expats who do go through the process outside Qatar.

There's a lot of opportunities for everyone here.
