Finding the right "ELC" in Doha
By AishaQureshi •
I have contacted almost all the leading Language Centers in Doha but unfortunately none of them have fed me with a positive response. The reason being, I don't carry an American/British/Candian Passport. Although, i am a Certified Trainer to train EFL, TESOL, TOEFL, IELTS and Corporate Trainings. My 2 years work experience in the GCC is also a plus; but i'm still unlucky to find the right center in Doha. Can anyone help?
marycatherine,
That was a big "ouch" but obviously from a good place.
People tend to get sloppy and do not realize that sloppy can be carried over accidentally if done frequently.
You give good advise. Although even if a person is not applying for work here, they never know if a potential employer is on the site and reads their post.
I realize that this is an informal forum, but from your post, if you are sending CVs to these places, I would suggest you get someone to proof read it first just to be sure.
Use of certain words, issues with capitalization, etc. in this forum's opening post would say to me (if I were a potential employer) that you are either not a native speaker, or careless, or haven't had a second set of eyes check over your work. Again, I realize you're not applying for work here, just looking for suggestions.
Having someone else look over your CV and cover letter is invaluable in helping you to make a great first impression.
@ Nessa... thanx for an informative post (: Let's see if i'm able to spot what i'm looking for!
@ Boer. I speak in a native accent or rather an American accent to be exact.
It is a fact that English language centres, in the main, prefer to recruit native speakers (not western passport holders necessarily). It is also true that students have at times been disappointed when faced with accents they perceive as 'foreign' and/or difficult to understand, be they English English, Scottish English, broad Australian English, standard American English, Canadian English or some other type of English.
That said, centres will need to get the job done and it is early days yet. When push eventually comes to shove, there will be enough for all those who are ready, able and willing to teach.
Happy job hunting!
