Drama and theatre in Doha

Hello everybody

I am recently arrived in Doha and I am desperately looking for some work in the cultural sector. At first glance, it appears Qatar is not very big for theatre/drama/cultural work. But somebody told me there is a new cultural village opening soon and that the British Council has project activities here too. Does anyone have advice on where a London theatre manager could look for a job? Thank you!

Hi trinity - thanks for the message.

Yes I did check out www.dohaplayers.com, it's looks very good...thanks for the tip! I'm off back to London next week but when I come back it should be for a while so maybe we could meet up?

I don't know much about the theater community here in Doha, but have you checked out: www.dohaplayers.com?

My work has mostly been behind and in front of the camera, but I've enjoyed working in several theater productions as well. It would be nice to meet other like-minded folks in Doha. Do you plan on staying in Doha for a long while?

Hi Mohammed - thanks for your message, that sounds very interesting. Next week I am going back to London to finish my theatre commitments - when are you making this movie? Is it an independent production? I would love to help - what would you need me to do?

Hi Clacketwisa

Thanks for your message! In London I was the scripts/writing manager at a major West End theatre. I was in charge of this department for the last 2 years and my duties included signing up new writing talent as well as working with writers to develop their scripts for the stage.

I am really trying to find out what kind of possibilities there are in Doha for jobs in the cultural sector (if any!). I have good contacts within the London theatre scene and I could do a useful job for any professional theatre company. I also have extensive practical drama experience, if there were positions available to teach drama at an academic establishment I would consider this too.

Any advice?
