Dr Tathagat Tulsi, 22, becomes Professor Tulsi at IIT Bombay

He completed high school at the age of 9, had a B.Sc at 10, an M.Sc in Physics at 12, and a PhD in Quantum Computing from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, at 21. In 2003, Time named him among the world's seven most gifted youngsters. Now, at age 22, Patna-born prodigy Tathagat Avtar Tulsi has become possibly the youngest assistant professor at IIT.

Tulsi will teach Physics at IIT Bombay from July 19, having chosen the institute over Waterloo University, Canada, and the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Bhopal, both of which had offered him jobs.

Read again n again what Khawaga saying, check even what Speed says,it will be good if people stop such unwanted remarks.

All educated Indians when go back they dont be mucks

Child labour? lol. Anyhow, it doesn't matter whether he is working, or studying. He has achieved which a normal person with higher IQ also would not be able to. Now, he wants to work, play or research, entirely his choice. But as Khawaga mentioned, a prodigy indeed.

Motiv8er: A child prodigy earning his PhD and choosing to accept a position as a professor in a university is not exactly child labor. What else do you expect an adult (he's 22 after all) to do after finishing his studies? He gets a job, of course! He's not exactly 5 years old and making bricks from mud or working a factory and being denied an education.

Why do u think its bashing? its just making others aware..thats all! More then anything I think India should aim to be a world class city. What's the point in havin all those brains..when in the end you go back and stay in muck !

Child labour?? huff !!! please no more bashings..

This is child labour..only happens in India !

Omershah you say "theres a boy at age of 14, he has been offered job by oracle " But what were his qualifications. Did he complete his school, BSc, MSc, and Phd at so young age as Our Prajju. Why don't you consider these things also when comparing?

Yes i do believe that a boy can be more capable than this if given proper guidance from early age, bcoz i do believe that asians are not less capable than anyone race on the earth.

Congrats

Really what Tulsi has done is amazing and extraordinary because of that he is in media not because of his nationality if anyone has substituted can prove. If some country’s extraordinary personality does not get as publicity as Indian’s that is not our concern because every country has their own media resource and way to promote and also it depends how much your county and people’s value these things.

An institute like IIT is a great place to do research

Especially a young guy like him, there will be people his age so he can be normal and there would be professors who can guide/advise him...

congratz to Tathagat......

Agree with Ajmani on further exploring the talent rather picking up a job for living :)

There are many such talented professional intellectuals, who actually needs State and Corporate support and sponsorships.

It is because they are agreeing to give him what he wants is why he stayed with them.

Who would be a better judge of what he wants to do, you and any other IITian's here or him?

Idk why, but many people always tend to think that they know best what others should do, or should have done with their lives.

Being Professor still he can persue his research.

Probably he wants to serve his country than Braindrain

Quantum computation based super computer sounds awesome. But do we have infrastructure for this, grant from government? Again, my point is that he should be in research full-time, not teach as a professor! If there are any IITian's here, they will understand what i mean!

By Colt45• 14 Jul 2010 10:39

Good for you, but if he wants to stick with IIT Bombay over Waterloo University, I don't think it's a waste. Besides, IIT agreed to grant his wish of setting up a lab focused on quantum computation in India.

Oh, Colt n others, I am a passout from IIT, Chennai, 1993 batch! All i meant to say was that he should have pursued his studies and become a scientist. He can do wonders at this young age! Duh, you guys reply to a comment before reading and understanding what the other person has said! Obviously, the guy has over-achieved at this young age. Hats off to him!

Well done Dr Tulsi for completing your research paper.

Remember that acquiring knowledge is not a race. What is important is what you do with that knowledge: how it is used to progress and help humanity as a whole.

A degree without practical implementation is nothing but a piece of paper with your name on it.

This is nothing. Mr Pajju Stripedhalflengthlungiwalla became the youngest sports professor at the Trivendrum Ladies College at the age of 18.

Sadly, at 18 1/2 he was deported to Qatar for charges unknown :O(

at age of 22 teaching at IIT is important, normally students of IIT try for admissions at 21+ for further studies.

Probably you do not know the quality of IIT

We know there are many from your place also don't show the hatredness to Indians, here Paki/Indian all getalong well.

By ajmani• 14 Jul 2010 10:25

What a waste of talent! Why did he become a professor? He should have pursued his studies and become the youngest scientist!!
