American Looking for a job!

Hello everyone, I arrived at Qatar a week ago and I am looking for a job. I heard Qatar offers great opportunities! I am 23 years old and I am born and raised in New Jersey, USA. With good work experience. I am currently a college student but I am taking online classes from a respected University in New Jersey. I chose to do this so that I can work and study in the same time. I speak fluent English and fluent Arabic but I am not Arab though. So I am asking for help in an Arab country and I'd appreciate any help I can get. I worked at a big company called STRYKER Orthopaedics and I worked in the Quality Assurance department at Stryker. Basically worked with excel most of the time. I managed all the incorrect specifications of the products and resent them out so that the products will be distributed properly. Thank you for your time! It truly is an amazing country!

motez1, if you speak English and Arabic fluently, then that's a great advantage. The problem here is the lack of accuracy of communication, that's why there are misunderstandings.

You can read and write Arabic but you are not that great in it but at least you speak fluently.

You'll probably get a response after Eid - start of the new year and some decision makers are away on summer breaks. While waiting, you might want to brush up on your written Arabic. No such thing as boredom, always constructive things to do.

All the best in your job hunt.

Take the time to develop your CV, cover letters too, apply everywhere you can, it doesn't hurt to do it now either, just don't want you to be discouraged if you hear nothing before Eid is over :)

Wow man I really appreciate it. I feel somewhat confident now lol. My parents are also here, they've been here for about two years now, which is why I decided to come to Qatar, I heard many great things about this place. My father did tell me to search for a job after Eid also but I feel like im wasting time just sitting down lol. I can read and write Arabic but I am not that great in it. But I will still search for a decent job. And your right about the jobs in the USA. I know people with respectful degrees that currently work at Mcdonalds and Burger King to support their families.

I graduated last year (I'm Bosnian), got my yearlong work permit, went to California, spent 3 months looking for something and found nothing, decided to cut my losses and came here (my parents are here). No bread yonder sadly, I got tons of friends jobless...no one I know back in the States has got a job recently but many have lost so...luckily it's all smiles here. I will give you a bit of advice, they're real slow here, well the big companies/institutions at least. And like in the States you gotta apply at 50 positions and then maybe a few will reply, but don't get disenchanted, there's tons of openings and a lot of people apply claiming they know English, but as you will see only rarely are they up to scratch when it comes to business correspondence, or technical writing particularly. Arabic too, many people here will tell you that you don't need it but it's hogwash, especially if you can write literary Arabic you're far ahead of most of your competitors, even Arabs too lol :)

Look for pace to pick up after eid, there's tons of construction projects getting announced on a daily basis, there's gonna be jobs aplenty here for at least the next two decades :)

nice name lol, actually i wouldnt mind getting paid as much as I did in NJ. I got paid well but the problem is with the recession that hit, they laid off a lot of people and sadly I was one of them. But I will check the sites you provided and I appreciate your help.

Stuff here goes just like Stateside, you gotta make a list of companies you might be interested in, go to their websites, fill out the forms, post your resume and any other relevant documentation, and also try Monstergulf, Bayt.com, and a few other employment sites. Data Entry don't pay too well I'm afraid but you won't get less than you did back in NJ. That's 'bout all I can tell you, good luck and do come back and tell us how the hunt went ;)
