Thousands of fasting people flock to Awqaf’s Iftar tents every day

Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) said thousands of fasting people were flocking to its Iftar tents every day, amidst an atmosphere of faith imbued with bonds of fraternity and compassion.
Awqaf, in a statement, said the Iftar project was not limited to offering fasting meals, but extended to other areas as well.
Awqaf is organising lectures — delivered by professional preachers from the Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center in Doha — to raise people’s awareness about religious matters and enhance correct Islamic values.
Mohammed Hassan Al Tamimi, Deputy Chairman of Awqaf’s Iftar committee, said the project aimed to provide Iftar meals for 300,000 fasting individuals throughout the Holy month of Ramadan.
“We seek to promote religious awareness among the labour community, enabling them to gain a correct and balanced understanding of the teachings of Islam,” he said.
“The Iftar tent embodies the principle of social solidarity in Islam, as it represents a comprehensive approach that strengthens bonds among community members and fosters a sense of responsibility toward others. The Prophetic Sunnah inspires this initiative,” he added.
Al Tamimi said lectures were held several days a week for thirty minutes before Maghrib, concluding ten minutes prior to Iftar, featuring distinguished in-the-know preachers from Awqaf, nominated by the center.
He said these lectures were a part of the ministry’s commitment to promoting religious awareness, particularly among workers and non-Arabic-speaking communities.
He added that Ramadan tents offer a valuable opportunity to engage these groups, as more than one thousand fasting individuals gather daily from Asr prayer until Maghrib to partake in the Iftar meal.
