Qatar’s Prime Minister meets Iranian Foreign Minister
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi, who is on a visit to Doha, on Thursday.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them. They also discussed the latest developments in the region, especially in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, in addition to several other topics of mutual interest.
Sheikh Mohammed stressed the need for concerted regional and international efforts to reduce escalation and avoid the spread of violence in the region. He reiterated Qatar’s complete readiness to do everything possible to enhance security and stability at the regional and international levels.
The wars in Palestine and Lebanon were the subject of ‘important consultations’ between the two leaders, said Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.
“It’s only responsible for all states to maximize their efforts to shield our region against an imposed catastrophe by stopping genocide in Gaza and aggression on Lebanon,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Araghchi’s visit came after Israel on Wednesday vowed to retaliate for Iran’s massive missile attack last week, stoking fears of a wider war in the Middle East. Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned the response against Iran would be ‘deadly, precise and surprising.’
A day earlier, Araghchi had been in Saudi Arabia where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Tehran had said the talks were aimed at providing ‘better conditions’ for Palestinians and Lebanese under Israeli attacks.
