Worker jailed for 'touching' a girl

A Nepali worker has been sentenced to three years in jail after being convicted by a Doha court of inappropriately ‘touching’ a minor girl .

According to a report in the Kathmandu-based e.kantipur.com, the 30-year old salesman at a hypermarket in Qatar was slapped with the jail term by the lower court on June 21 following a hearing on the charge.

The man was arrested by police on March 16 from his workplace. The convict has moved the appellate court against the lower court’s verdict, claiming that he never touched the unidentified girl presumed to be around 9 years old.

According to the accused, he had only dropped a packet of spice on the girl while taking it out from a top shelf. He said the girl’s mother then began manhandling him, accusing him of having bad intentions.

He was later handed over to the police. He told the paper he notified the Nepali embassy in Doha about the case.

“I gave a full account of the incident by calling up the acting ambassador as well as the labour attache at the Nepali embassy. However, no one from the embassy came to meet me. There was no one at the court to plead on my behalf,” he was quoted by the paper as saying.

However, Nepal’s acting ambassador to Qatar Ganesh Dhakal assured the daily that the mission would take necessary steps by consulting a lawyer.

In this day and age, every time we hear of a bizarre incident, our minds go to work trying to figure out why that thing happened. Below the surface of story, there is a feeling for the worker. People are simply calling the way each one sees the incident from his or her perspective. With the support of his embassy and may be a lawyer, the case may get a fair hearing and the worker would find an opportunity to express his views on the incident. Surely then, justice would prevail as justice is blind. Otherwise, we will be walking backwards into the future.

Zafirah, it is written there that packet was fall when he was taking out from the top shelf, now if it was actually that then why did her mother punish him, that's unfair and if it is wrong statement then he's conviction is right. Everybody is just guessing here that's it.

As of now its just one side that has been heard. Therefore the case cannot be concluded. Let the truth come out in the limelight and may justice be done.

Apart from this case, there are several times when women face difficulties like some random guy touching them and when these women keep quiet , this becomes a key for person "Q" to repeat the act again. Whereas on the other hand if the woman takes the picture of person "Q" , up to some extend his indecent act can be definitely stopped. Keeping quiet will only encourage such indecent behaviors . Instead , ACT AT THE RIGHT TIME , BE THE VOICE THAT SPEAKS FOR OURSELVES !!

We are all speculating here. Who knows what happened. If he really did what he is accused of, then punishment is justified. If he is a victim of unfair justice system then his life is ruined for no reason. However, the issue in that case is much larger then just this incident. In the wake of human rights allegations against Qatar, it is important for authorities to go beyond normal means in making sure justice system is fair for all.

I was doing some googling on Qatar Living on past rape threads and found gems like these referring to women who have been sexually assaulted "then this happened because: Major cause: First she had a bad luck, i.e. a rapist or a bad guy has been in contact with her in any way in some place or ocasion. 1st Minor cause: Second she does not respect her self and too much free laughing in an abnormal way with evey one she know and she does not know. 2nd Minor cause: Walking alone in unsafe places with disregard to what she wears."..................."Showing too much skin [ by her ] is another important hint that goes out ".............."Analyse the dress sense or skin showing habit of a rape victim in her past few weeks life to come up to the conclusion .."....................."keep it mentioning sometimes with original newpaper clippings that when authorities had warned to stay off the marked streets for a certain period of the day or night for some reason but people [ girls ] still don't bother .... what do they expect in return ?"......................."Question is .. Are our women contributing sincerely in their own safey & well being ? Does it show ?"..................."In one way this could have been prevented if the girl was not out night very late or she was accompanied by couple of her male family members or went with her family members Today the advanced life style has completed destroyed the mind of the peoples".........................."Ladies' place is at home specially at night".............................."all I stress upon is the self restraint on girls part ... Like all of us they should take into considration the environment around them ... & ask themselves what measures they have at hand in case of emergency .... I support in their { womens } just cause .... unlike those who say man & woman were equal ...."

I don't think so one will dare to help, if needed during emergency situation. Don't the supermarket have CCTV to verify the footage of the allegation?

Might be he touched not to intention for sex but to clean the spicy which is mistakenly dropped over her body its common sense but in Qatar its big Haram but real offender are roaming around in Pajero and harassing the girls who are waiting to get taxi, even their children’s start to hit, bullying if you are walking alone on the street I wonder myself how their parents taught to them bcoz I have a similar experiences here in Doha.

if he really did this he deserve to be arrested. but judgement process is not fair. he needs his embassy. they have to check cameras. I don't believe that he dared to abuse a kid in front of her mom. the kid's mom must be very sensitive. the judgement process should be fair here is a Muslim country. he has rights as well
