Very soon, private schools in Qatar could operate in morning and evening shifts
A surprising plan, if approved, will see some of Qatar’s private schools operating in two shifts — in the mornings and evenings.
It is understood that Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education is actively considering the proposal, allowing private schools to meet the ever-growing demand for school seats, reported The Peninsula.
If given approval, the plan could be put into action as early as the next academic year.
“The proposal is under study and so far we’ve not given final approval,” Rawda Al Zaidan, Director of Private Schools Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education told The Peninsula.
The department is actively considering the pros and cons of the proposal, first suggested by some private schools in the country, and ensure schools meet the standards required for the two shifts.
“This is one of the proposals that the Ministry is looking at. If things work well in terms of applying required standards, we’ll be able to allow two shifts from next academic year onwards,” Al Zaidan was quoted as saying.
The Ministry is also looking into schools that are running over capacity due to incessant demand, especially those from India, The Philippines, and Tunisia.
The Embassy of India is cooperating with the Ministry in finding the solution for problems of shortage of seats for students of its community in Qatar.
“The Embassy gave a number of proposals at the Ministry. Now we’re working to bring appropriate solutions out of these proposals,” she said.
Good Step by the Govt. Apnetv.
Whose idea was this?....teachers work hard enough without having to work a shift pattern, when would you mark books, do your planning, look after your own children. Teachers have enough to do without shifts being brought in!, unless your going to pay over the odds, but i doubt it. This is not an oil rig !, it's education!....children are the future not lumps of meat to be thrown around, we already test out children too much with assessments etc.
If this is implemented be prepared for a mass exodus of teachers.
Thank you, Many parents waiting for final approval...
We used to do it when we were 8 -10 years old . It was not nice from many points of views . 1 . home alone in the mornings 2 . arriving home late -spending very little time with my family . As only some classes were forced to do the afternoon shift - the school was nearly empty in the afternoons . It was creepy at times -especially in winter darkness .
It will be a very good decision by Gov. of Qatar, If implemented.
