If you are someone who always says you don’t have enough time in a day to get things done, then you should not be complaining tomorrow.

This is because June 21, Thursday, will be the longest day in the country this year, according to Qatar Calendar House.

This year’s summer solstice will occur on Thursday in Qatar and all other countries of the Northern Hemisphere. On the day, the sun will be perfectly perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer at 1:15pm Doha time, reported Gulf Times.

This phenomenon is important all over the world as summer solstice describes the tilt of the earth’s axis and is also an indicator of climatic changes.

There are two reasons behind the occurrence of summer solstice including the earth’s rotation on its orbit around the sun every 365.25 days approximately and earth’s axis tilting over its orbit plane by 23.5º.

The summer solstice will be taking place after vernal equinox which started on March 20, according to Qatar Tribune.

The length of the spring has reached 93 days since its beginning on 20 March, while the length of the summer this year will be approximately 94 days until the beginning of autumn at the dawn of September 23.

The summer solstice on this day will occur on the northern hemisphere, while the situation will be reversed in the southern hemisphere where the winter solstice will occur on the same day.

On this day, for places located on the upper latitudes (47.5 and 66.55 N), the phenomenon of morning twilight (Twilight Dawn) will occur in the evening twilight (Twilight of Supper) in a phenomenon that is astronomically known as the Midnight Sun.

qlocation: oh and by the way, qatar and most of the middle eastern countries are classified as arid hot desert countries; even without my last response to you, there was nothing wrong with what i said and this comment would have been enough and equally suitable...its only when you take it in a negative way that it can be seen as a negative; you said 'thank god the longest day came after ramadan'; i could say you were complaining about ramadan being difficult but i saw what you meant and took it as a joke the way you meant it :-)

qlocation: you know; i had typed 'blessings like comfortable homes and air conditioned cars and buildings and great facilities while in the desert'; and then i removed that part fearing someone would come along and say tthat hey had all those things in their countries too; i get what you are trying to say; but the thing is that many people love to attack and put down qatar even while they live here and partake of all the blessings here; so even though i love qatar and would happily die for this country, i have to control expressing my praise and adoration on QL especially, because many people don't like to hear anything good about qatar or take it as an insult to their own country; have a good day :-)

hedleyblade: nobody said it was religion so please pass the salt; you've obviously had enough; and it is in fact news because the summer solstice isn't always the 21st but rather between the same june 20-22 period; so keep the science; you need a bit more of that...

qlocation: haha i thought the same; but alhamdlillah, the truth is that even during summer proper, this year's ramadan was for me personally very easy to fast; plus the other blessings like reduced work days and combined festive spirit that muslims in the arab world enjoy, help further; we have been blessed with the easiest ramadan even while we live in the desert and have no reason to complain alhmdlillah :-)
