Everyone knows that this is Christmas season and that many nations in Europe will be covered in snow. But we are in the GCC and it never snows here, or does it?

Ladies and gentlemen, feat you eyes and senses on actual snow that rained down in the northern borders of Al Joof in Saudi Arabia.

While Qatar has witnessed hailstones on different occasions, it has never welcomed snow before. Will we be the next on the list? Are you looking forward to it?

enjoyment? this is an indication of global warming... ice caps starts to melt very fast, coral reefs in different parts are destroyed because of the water temperature...just wait for more then you see a clearer picture

No, it is not all joys in Al Jouf during the winter season when the whole area gets covered with ice.

Al Jouf has among the largest farms in S Arabia some averaging around 20 sq. kms. in just the length. These farms have hundreds of farmhands working in them. The farmhands earn a very low salary just around SR 600 per month. I was attached to one such farm for sometime. The very sad part is that the workers were taken to their work places from their residences on open trucks! Some of them did have warm clothing from whatever money they could save. Some just did not have enough. With the chilly wind biting into their bones while the truck was travelling, one has to be there to see and understand their plight. Nobody in the management cared as they had their cars provided by the company with the heater running continuously.

As such, while the beauty of the snowfall is no doubt there, there is a lot of untold sufferings also -- and of course no joys.
