His Excellency the President of Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, yesterday inaugurated Qatari Diar's Anantara-Tozeur Resort project in Tunisia.

Several ministers, ambassadors, dignitaries, and Qatari and Tunisian businessmen attended the ceremony.

"We are delighted to attend this distinguished occasion with the inauguration of the Qatari Diar project. We are proud of the achievements by the company on the Tunisian territory, which embodies the distinguished brotherly relations between the two countries and increases the economic relations between Qatar and Tunisia," HE Sheikh Joaan said on the occasion.

Tunisian Minister of Tourism and Acting Minister of Transport Rene Trabelsi praised the work accomplished at the resort, which represents a distinguished Qatari investment in Tunisia and reflects the strength of the distinguished Qatari-Tunisian relations in all fields.

HE the Chairman of Qatari Diar, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, said in his opening speech that Qatari Diar is delighted to open this resort, which it hopes will be one of the main tributaries and distinct addition to tourism in Tunisia.

HE Sheikh Joaan thanked the Tunisian government for providing continuous support and cooperation during the project.

The opening of this resort is the culmination of the company's ongoing work over the past years since Qatari Diar purchased an area of 400,000sq m in Tozeur in order to create a distinctive desert resort based on the cultural heritage of the region to provide a distinct experience bearing the imprint of Qatari Diar, said the CEO of Qatari Diar, Eng. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah.

He further mentioned that the company has allocated a huge investment of more than 222 million Tunisian dinars (about QR284 million) for the project.

Five local contractors had been employed for all the work in the project, Al Attiyah said, adding that the company also focused on the use of homemade materials that accounted for about 84 percent of the raw materials used in the project.

At least 238 Tunisian employees were hired for the project, 72 percent of whom are from Tozeur.

The Chairman of Minor Hotels Group, Bill Heinecke, the owner of the Anantara brand, said that the project is one of the best Anantara hotels in the world and the company is proud to select Qatari Diar to manage this unique resort.

Just a 12-minute drive from Tozeur-Nefta International Airport, Anantara Tozeur Resort is located in the heart of the desert.

The resort, wholly owned by Qatari Diar, comprises 93 hotel units, ranging from rooms, suites, and villas, as well as two VIP villas.

It features several health and spa facilities, a sports club, tennis courts, swimming pools, cultural village, retail shops, and restaurants.

Qatari Diar Real Estate Company was established in 2005 by the Qatar Investment Authority, the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar. It was entrusted to support Qatar's growing economy and to coordinate the country's real estate development priorities.

As of January 2018, Qatari Diar had a shared capital of $8 billion, with 60 investment projects under development or held in 24 countries around the world, combining a value of over $35 billion.
