Sharp rise in number of job-seekers coming to Qatar

Doha is witnessing a spurt in the number of job-seekers, with many aspirants being seen around key office locations in big numbers.
Though some businesses are reportedly going slow on fresh recruitment, this hasn’t deterred job-seekers from trying their luck across various industries and positions in Qatar, the Gulf Times reported.
Community portals and social networking sites are flooded with requests for employment from several people who have come to the country hoping to land a job.
This is in addition to an apparently significant rise in advertisements in the "situations wanted" column of local newspapers, and the Qatar Living Job-Seeker section has over 8,000 listings.
Interactions with recruitment agencies and some employers over the last few days show that each of them has received numerous applications from aspirants though there has been no significant growth in the job market across the region.
The manager of a firm functioning from a tower in West Bay said a considerable number of young aspirants, including those who visit the country for the purpose of job-hunting, come to the building regularly.
He explains this is in response to classified advertisements placed by some of the offices operating in the building.
"It seems visitors to the country are more familiar with our place than some long-time Doha residents," he said jokingly.
A Doha resident who recently set up a new office in Msheireb said they, too, are receiving a number of visitors who come looking for employment opportunities.
Some other offices on the same floor of the building - one of the topmost - reported similar instances.
The large-scale arrival of job-hopefuls has taken some employers and recruitment agencies by surprise as there have been reports of job cuts in some sectors as well as a freeze on fresh recruitment in certain cases, it is understood.
Apparently, many job-seekers are coming from African countries, which are not usually considered major manpower-supplying nations to Qatar or other places in this region.
Interestingly, the Doha Bus Station has reportedly become a haven for small-time recruiters as the place is visited by many of those who come to the country on a visit visa, seeking employment.
These recruiters look to identify such people, who use the bus service to go to different offices while hunting for jobs, and see if they are fit for a certain position. (Source: Gulf Times)

britey came here looking for Karak chai and parota and he met Me.
This is a problem. People come here looking for gold and most end up depressed and living hand to mouth.
because there is also a sharp rise on retrenchments and lay-offs of workers.
It is just another indication of how flawed the laws in Qatar are.
