Second case of H1N1 infection found within a week
A second case of H1N1 has been reported in Qatar within a week, an Arabic daily reported yesterday.
The sister of an expatriate boy, who was admitted at the Hamad General Hospital last week following a suspected H1N1 infection, has also tested positive for the virus, the daily said. She is also being treated at HGH, it added.
The two-and-a-half year old boy was admitted at HGH on March 19 and remained there until March 21. He was discharged with instructions to continue medication at home, the daily said, quoting his parents.
The parents had earlier claimed that the boy was not immediately isolated at the hospital but was kept with three other children in a room for several hours.
Patients infected with H1N1 can stay at home and continue medication as the influenza is similar to any other flu, according to the World Health Organisation.
However, parents should keep the infected children isolated from others at home, the daily said, quoting a hospital source.
