As several countries around the world continue to grapple with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Qatar’s Government Communications Office (GCO) has confirmed there are no reported cases of the virus in Qatar.
While the country has intensified efforts to monitor, detect and deal with the infection at the earliest possible, the GCO has also said that the risk of the virus affecting individuals in Qatar remains low.
A statement issued by GCO yesterday assures the public that all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard the public.
Plans are in place to tackle the situation in case any case is reported.

GCO also affirmed that Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health has been coordinating with all local entities, the World Health Organization (WHO) in addition to other international organizations to make sure Qatar remains well informed on the latest updates about the virus.
"Given the rapidly changing situation, it is important that the public refer regularly to official government communications on the matter," the GCO stated.
"All official guidance and communications will be issued by the Ministry of Public Health and made available on their website," the statement added.
Furthermore, the GCO called on members of the public not to pay heed to any unofficial or unconfirmed information regarding the virus saying that MoPH provides regular updates on its website.
The updates are available in several languages and can also be found on the Ministry’s social media pages.
A 24/7 hotline (66740948 or 66740951) is also available for information and updates, the GCO highlighted.
Moreover, the GCO asked those who plan any travels to check Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for travel advisories.
The GCO advised people who currently have travel plans to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for the latest travel advice.
Earlier, this week MoPH also confirmed that the country is leaving no stone unturned in trying to keep the risk of the virus entering in Qatar at an absolute minimum. It also said if any case is detected, the country is well-prepared to manage the situation.
