Residents complain of lack of restroom facilities at the Doha bus station

Lack of adequate number of toilets at the Doha bus station is raising a stink - literally - for its immediate vicinity.

Shopkeepers in the area complain of an unbearable stench pervading the area all the time.

Though passengers have been demanding more washrooms at the bus station, inquiries have found only one such facility, housed in a portacabin, is available for the use of people visiting the bus stand.

According to a shopkeeper, men can be seen urinating in the space between the station’s compound wall and the taxi parking area.

“The situation becomes acute after the sunset as people take advantage of the darkness and relieve themselves in the open ground. We have to cover our noses all the time as we are close to the place,” said a resident of the Bin Ghanim area, where the bus station is located.

Shopkeepers and other residents of the locality have urged Karwa authorities to open more restrooms at the bus station. [Gulf Times]

well, at least there is even a men's toilet there. ladies have to walk to the nearest hotel that would let them use its washroom. that's the price we pay for the privilege of getting front seat priority on the bus.

the swinging gates are supposedly a protective measure for the incident that happened there a couple of years back that killed people. i hope it really is effective this time

Brit Expat: Dont speak foolish

How can you say "men should be prosecuted and fined."

Authorities should provide Toilets...the men are not responsible.

It is natural call and it is urgent to discharge it . Holding urine will cause your bladder to rot and kidney stones.

Offer it to any company to open a toilet business with a charge of Qr 0.5 per entry & put strict penalty to whoever do it in non-dedicated area. It'll solve the problem easily.

Acchabaccha: Valid points .. There should be toilet facilities . However people should not urinate in public. I once visited Jubail in Saudi Arabia . Went downtown in the evening and saw men pissing against a wall...

Brit: You would not understand the problems of the general public who use the Karwa buses as you go floating around the city in your pink Kia. There are times one needs to wait 30 minutes for his bus and some journeys take an hour long. Not just that the only very small, dirty, stinking toilet facility for males that existed has been removed, no such was ever present for females. An then waiting for around 30 minutes or so in cold weather, makes it a natural demand to seek toilet facility. Karwa has recently spent much on installing unwanted and useless swinging gates at the bus station. They could have used this fund for putting up toilets which were more essential.

Actually there was a public restroom before.. but not they don't have.. they said it's for there employees only... you see the way they think? i mean it's just a bathroom, why won't they open it for the public? will they loose billions for that?.. For those of you who are in Doha bus station... there's a small building or a jewelry compound.. within there's a bathroom... you can come there as long as it's open.

the doha bus station stinks, with people mostly labor class, spitting openly . This is a terrible health hazard to people taking bus. I stopped going to doha bus station, because of all the filth and dirt through which you have to wade. Also you can see the drivers and karwa people loitering around on the parking bay. The karwa taxi drivers and illegal taxi drivers compete with each other to get passengers from this place. I think Karwa management should immediately address these issues, instead of letting passengers do whatever they like
