Qatar to turn USA’s current Embassy building in London into luxury hotel
Qatar’s investments in the United Kingdom is set to grow even bigger after London authorities approved Qatari Diar’s plans to convert the current US embassy building into a luxury hotel.
Qatari Diar bought the building, located in Mayfair’s Grosvenor Square, in 2009, reported Arabianbusiness.com.
The US Embassy, which is currently functioning out of the building, will be moved to a new site in Vauxhall later this year.
The Westminster Council approved plans to add two new floors to the building. It will nearly double the floor space to 45,000 square metres.
Earlier this year, Qatari Diar had announced a $2bn deal to create a home-rental business in London, making it one of the UK capital’s largest landlords.
