Qatar has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that took place at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier this afternoon, killing 49 people and injuring at least 20, including women and children.

Qatar reiterated its firm stance on rejecting terrorism, extremism, regardless of motives and reasons.

Earlier this afternoon, Qatar’s leadership including HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani sent a cable of condolences to the New Zealand leaders, denouncing the horrific act of violence and wishing speedy recovery of the injured.

One of the deadliest attacks in New Zealand’s history, the attack involved mass shootings targeting Muslims at a time they were attending to Friday prayers, reported BBC.

The mosques on target were the Masjid Al Noor in central Christchurch and another one in suburban Linwood.

New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern called this “one of New Zealand’s darkest days.”

The main shooter, who identified himself as Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, broadcast livestream footage on Facebook showing him driving to a mosque, entering it and shooting at point blank at the people inside, according to The Guardian.

Four other suspects, including a woman, were apprehended in connection with the attacks. One of the arrested men had been charged with murder, according to Al Jazeera.

It was a great tragedy that took place in a country which lies in a remote corner of the world and is known to be a land of peace. The act should be condemned in the strongest terms.

The cause behind such acts is the growing fear of Muslims worldwide which now carries the label of "Islamophobia." It is a fact that leaders of the world's two major democracies have used the "anti-Muslim card" to win elections in their countries and come to power. When some world leaders fan hatred through their rhetoric, such unhappy incidents are expected to take place.

And now to add fuel to the fire, an Australian lawmaker Senator Fraser Anning has openly come out with his hatred of Muslims. He stated, "The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program, which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place." Anning continued to say that Muslims are usually the perpetrators of violence and that Islam is "the religious equivalent of fascism."

While the Australian Prime Minister was quick to condemn Anning's comments, the hatred and fear against Muslims fanned by some world "leaders" who are bigots, is now out in the open. With "educated" people such as Annings who are responsible lawmakers in a "developed" country like Australia, holding such views and openly spewing out hatred against Muslims, gives an insight into the dark side this world is gradually sliding into.

While the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison was quick to condemn Anning's comments, his action was not hitting hard-enough.

Anning should be kicked out from the parliament.

Terrorism has no place in religion.
