Qatar spending stunning $500m per week for 2022 FIFA World Cup

If lone thought hosting a FIFA World Cup is expensive, then that’s right. But what boggles the mind is the amount of money being spent by Qatar on building the legacy for the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Qatar, which never does anything half-heartedly, is investing not only on stadiums, but also on the country’s overall infrastructure including roads, railways, airports, seaports and hospitals.

And the amount the country spends for this, around $500m every single week, has people’s heads spinning.

FoxSports tried to put that amount into perspective.

“To put that into perspective, Qatar is looking at spending $200bn by the time the tournament kicks off, which is 19 times more than 2018 Russia is projected to spend ($10.7bn) and 18 times more than Brazil spent ($11bn) in 2016.”

Do you know what that means? The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the most expensive ever.

The head of finance for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup told BBC that the pace of spending will continue at least for the next three to four years.

“We’re giving ourselves a good chance to deliver things on time. We don’t want to be in a place where we start painting when people are coming to the country,” said Ali Shareef Al Emadi said.

Of all the projects planned, contracts for 90% of them have already been awarded. Qatar are likely avoiding a repeat of what happened in Brazil, where they had far less work to do, but fell behind schedule and struggled to get stadiums ready in time.

The 2022 World Cup may still be almost six years away, but Qatar has a lot of work to do and they are going at it in full swing.

Come on Qatar, make us all proud!

No jobs, people are available. I meant, 500million usd means , one of the fastest growth rate time in the history compared to past but still no jobs available in market, why??, population is also getting down since few months as per available reports. People are getting salaries not on time, i didnot get myself my salary from aug 16 to nov 16, then i had changed the job. My many friends complaing the same about salaries. And getting very very hard time from banks due to liabilities. I think now you will get the point.

kashif_au: I don't undersatnd your point. The money is being spent on projects underway ..... what does the job market have to do with it ?

Are you saying that there are no jobs, or not many candidates for jobs ?

But no jobs in market, before 3 years when we post adf on gulf times, around 20 calks plus emails would been received but now a days nothing even no more than few calls only. Offers are very less. So its not understanding where 500m is spending as job rate is very down in market.
