Qatar Municipal Council might ban male sales staff working in women’s clothing shops
The members of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) have demanded for all sales staff in shops selling women’s clothing in Qatar to be females alone.
The subject of male staff working in female garment shops was raised at the CMC’s bi-weekly regular session.
“CMC chairman Mohamed bin Hammoud al-Shafi raised the issue yesterday, stressing that the topic had been pending since 2006, and he requested a ministerial decision to ban men from working at women's clothes and accessories shops,” reports Gulf Times.
CMC member Sheikha al-Jufairi noted that there are limited women applicants for sales jobs.
However, CMC vice-chairman Hamad Lahadan al-Muhannadi pointed out that some other GCC countries have already enforced a ban on men from working as sales staff at women's clothes shop and said Qatar should follow this trend as part of the local traditions.
He also said that men can work as cashiers in such shops.
The issue was referred to the CMC Services and Utilities Committee for further discussion and consultation with officials of the relevant authorities to issue the necessary recommendations.
Brit: Come on, go ahead; say ' oh youngling' to him :-)
Fgnhgn: have you never bought Lacey things for your beloved ?
Only last month , I gave Rizks a lift to Victoria's Secrets in The Villagio so he could buy a Valentine's Day gift for Chin Tu Fat
Britexpat: Buying casual wears for your wife or Gf is ok! but why the hell would a man go and buy a garment for ladies.lolzzzz
They needed ten years to come yo that "decision:? They will need another ten years to implement it. And then it will take another ten years before they start punishing those who violate the rule. And in the end they will get a 50% discount if they pay the fine within another ten years.
fgnhgn: Will they allow men to go in and buy clothes for their wives / partners / GFs?
good decision taken by the authority. Being man I think it really makes so uncomfortable for ladies to buy garments if there is a male staff. This should have been implemented years before.
There are two sides to this ..
I recall my Cuban Shotputter going in to a lingerie shop to buy 'a little something' and feeling scared when the male salesperson ogled her ..
On the other hand , if only females were allowed to work in such shops , then would men be allowed to go in and buy things
They have been "discussing" this since 2006. It seems they like discussing more than implementing.
