Qatar Education City LRT services set for a mid-2017 start
German tech giants Siemens has delivered eight of the 19 Avenio QEC low-floor Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) that will be used in the Education City’s light rail line.
The remaining 11 vehicles, which are currently situated at the company’s Wildenrath test centre, will be shipped out soon, railjournal.com reported.
The 27.7M-long bidirectional vehicle will have three sections that can accommodate 157 passengers. Out of the total numbers, 51 will be seated on tip-up seats.
The transport system, which is expected to open by mid-2017, will eventually link up with the Doha Metro.
Roof-mounted ultracapacitors will be recharged at each stop, with a 20-sec cycle for a full charge.
