WATCH: Qatar demolish the UAE 4-0 to progress to their first AFC Asian Cup final in history
Qatar progressed to their first-ever AFC Asian Cup final with a clinical 4-0 win over hosts UAE.
Qatar, which is yet to concede a goal in the tournament, started slowly and scored at regular intervals to send their fans at home into a tizzy. The stadium, which was choke filled with UAE fans, grew silent with each of Qatar’s goals.
Boualekl Khoukhi opened Qatar’s scoring in the 22nd minute, and it was followed up by Almoez Ali, who scored his eighth goal of the tournament in the 37th.
The UAE seemed to pull themselves together in the second half, but experienced Hassan Al Haydos scored an effortless goal in the 80th to finish the game as a contest.
The UAE’s Ismael Ahmad was given a red card in the 91st minute for elbowing a Qatari player.
Soon after, Qatar made it 4-0 as Hamid Ismail slid in a goal into the rival post.
The stadium, which did not have even a single Qatari fan due to the ongoing blockade, expressed their anger by throwing shoes at the Qatari players each time they pumped in a goal.
Qatar will take on Japan in the final on February 1.
