The Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning is looking at plans to build 55 new parks across the country.

Two public parks are expected to be opened within few weeks and free wi-fi services are extended to all parks, said a senior official.

At least 55 public parks are under consideration and some of them are being designed for all over the country, said Mohammad Ali Al Khori, Head of the Public Parks Department.

Two parks will be opened at Umm Salal and Al Wakra within few months.

He was speaking in an open forum organised by Public Relation Department at the Ministry.

The problem of poor lighting (streets and public parks) and shortage of play areas will be solved very soon, said Al Khori.

Department is coordinating with Supreme Council for Information and Technology (ictQatar) to extend the free internet services in all public parks in the country, he added.

More than two millions plants were laid last year in addition to those sold to the people for gardening in the private facilities, the credit goes to the Department, said Al Khori.

The productions of the plants at the nurseries of the department is enough to meet the growing demands of the country. Public and private schools are also being provided plants for gardening at their facilities.

The Department also organized several trips of school children in a bid to create awareness for planting. [Source|Image]

The free WiFi is a bad idea. What's the point. Do you want people to be enjoying nature or to have their heads buried in their devices? In any case with so many people showing up to use the WiFi I doubt it would be very fast. And most people who need it would have 4G data. For a country that is trying to build a 'sporting' culture this doesn't make sense.
