Prophet’s Poet Festival to be organized by Katara
Cultural Village Foundation-Katara is organizing the Prophet’s Poet Festival from April 10 to 14 which will witness the presentation of the ‘Katara Award for the Prophet’s Poets’ to the winners.
Since its launch last June, the award saw huge response from across the Arab world and beyond with 828 poems submitted prior to the deadline.
Judging will be carried out by two independent panels of juries comprising professors, academics and specialists in the Arabic language and poetry, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti told a press conference yesterday.
The first panel will come up with a shortlist of the best 30 poems. The final jury will choose the five poets for awards during the festival.
The award carries a total prize of $675,000. The top winner will receive $300,000; and the second to fifth $200,000, $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000, respectively.
Katara will publish an anthology of the winning poems.
With the theme ‘Poetry’s Beauty Blossoms When Describing the Best of Mankind’, the five-day festival will also have opening and closing ceremonies, seminars, lectures, and exhibitions.
Events lined up for the festival include the opening ceremony on April 10, seminars among 30 poets, and prize distribution on April 14; ‘Complementing the Messenger Exhibition’ by poets across all ages, Islamic Exhibition, Arab Calligraphy, Lessons about the love of Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) for five days after Maghrib prayers and the Human Prophet lectures for three days after Asr prayers.
A section of the festival, titled ‘Towards the Love of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH)’ will include competitions and activities to be participated by institutes and centres from Qatar and abroad. [The Peninsula]
@ KHAN.... Are u considering himself a scholar of Islam?
@ KHAN We don't need your fatwa here. Allah (s.w.t) himself has praised most of the places in Quran about prophet. Hassan bin sabit (r.a.) one of sahaba had written the poems praising the prophet (p.b.u.h). Better u keep your fatwa for urself only.
MashaAllah, Katara is doing great work.
I would like to share the poem of “Hassan Bin Thabith” (R.A) the Companion of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
“No eye has beheld anyone
more handsome than you,
No mother has given birth to
anyone more exalted than you,
You have been created without
any blemish or defects,
As if the Creator has created you
according to your wishes.”
Poet: Hassan bin Thabith (R.A)

This action is a kind of exaggeration about Prophet Muhammad, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned us against and forbade us to do.
Prophet said: “Do not exaggerate about me as the Christians exaggerated about the son of Maryam, for I am no more than His slave, so say, the slave of Allaah and His Messenger.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, Ahaadeeth al-Anbiya’, 3189).
Worship is for Allah alone....Praising someone (through words, poems etc) is a form of worship. Prophet is not to be worshipped. Rather send blessing for our Prophet. It is prescribed for the Muslim to pray for peace for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and to send salaams upon him, just as it is prescribed to pray for blessings for him. The evidence that it is prescribed to send salaams upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Allaah sends His Salaah (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad), and also His angels (ask Allaah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salaah on (ask Allaah to bless) him (Muhammad), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation, i.e. As‑Salaamu ‘Alaykum)”
