The Philippines President Rodrigo R Duterte is expected to visit Qatar in the first half of 2017, thus bolstering relations between the two countries, according to the Philippines’ Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C Santos.

The ambassador said they were preparing for a visit by Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr, which in turn will be the first step for a presidential visit, reported The Peninsula.

“There’re plans for the President to visit Qatar. In fact, we received instructions to prepare for the visit of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay this month to lay the groundwork for the visit of the President either in the first or second quarter of next year,” the envoy was quoted as saying.

The last Philippine president to visit Qatar was Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, way back in 2008. The Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had visited the Philippines in April, 2012.

“It has been four years since that last high level visit between our two countries. It’s time for our President to visit Qatar,” he said.

The president’s visit is expected to bolster relations between the two countries. Experts also expect the two nations to sign a slew of mutually beneficial agreements.

The ambassador also revealed plans to relocate the Philippines Embassy to a bigger facility in the coming days.

“We’ve plans to transfer to a bigger area with one or two buildings to house all the agencies represented in the Philippine Embassy,” he said. The embassy has already found a piece of land and negotiations are ongoing with the owner to build two buildings with sufficient parking space.

@Mufti Shahid: I have never criticized your country or anybody's country no matter what i read in the news because I don't know the truth and it is none of my business because I am not a citizen. If you have Malay blood or filipino blood please criticize all you want or atleast your a PR of Malaysia or Philippines. If your not please stop degrading the countries that represent me. LONG LIVE RAZAK and DUTERTE!

@Mufti Shahid: So what if he is helping MALAYs? Right? Lol nobody want to help MALAYs.Wow you sure they are REAL malaysians? I don't want to educate you more because clearly you don't know anything. But you can tell your "Malaysian" friends there is a reason why the country is called MALAYsia. if they don't like it they can go to singapore.

Hamzah. What made you think i have not been to Malasiya. I have more Malaysian friends than any other nationality.

So what if he is helping Malay's elsewhere. Economy is in doldrums. Minorities are being sidelined. Millions of dollars were found in Najib's private account for that investigations are going on in no. of countries.. Prominent Malaysians like Mahatir, Anwar, Sultan of Johor etc have criticized him. Anybody in UMNO criticizing him is shown door. He is playing race and religious card to survive. Otherwise he has been a big failure.

I do not criticize another country's Politics because of two reason:

1. I don't have the right because I am not a citizen.

2. Its none of my business they can do what ever they want because it's their country.

Only malaysia and philippines for other countries I don't have the right and you can do whatever you want.

@Mufti Shahid: Said the expert who based his information of a country thru internet and never visited or even spoke to a person from that countries. Razak helped Malays in mindanao and northern thailand. Duterte Made philippines safe for law abiding citizens who are afraid of criminals. Malaysia is becoming a powerhouse in ASIA as well as philippines(Will be the next singapore in 2040). I don't know where your from but I'm 100% sure Your country is much more problematic than mine so please don't be an expert of somebodies country because your just humiliating yourself.

Duterte is surely a man of courage. I have liked him for having the willpower to go after the drugs dealers with an iron fist without caring for the retaliation form human rights groups or people in power from across the world. It speaks much about his inner great qualities as a clean man who thinks for his nation.

I salute him!

This is a good step towards better relations between the two countries ... Regardless of what other people here from the media - he is a good man with a good heart - he only thinks what is best for Filipinos in general. Kudos for the new President of the Philippines.
